Outline numbering was changed to "Chapter Numbering" (bug 107573) primarily with the hope that it would be easier for users to understand the purpose of the dialog. This renaming was confirmed in bug 141452. A review of the discussion in both of these tickets shows that "Heading" was not considered a candidate for the renaming. This ticket proposes that the dialog should be renamed "Heading Numbering" Reasons for change: - in LO “chapter” refers only headings with outline level 1. The change would make it easier to explain some points in help, and avoid confusion that dialog is only applicable to documents with chapters (both in the LO meaning and the everyday meaning). - make it easier to understand that the dialog can also used with documents that are not chapters (e.g., journal articles, student papers). - may improve recognition for using this dialog for numbering headings instead of using Bullets and Numbering DF. - would be consistent with Navigator, which uses "headings"
Repeating what I've wrote elsewhere: This would certainly be better than Chapter Numbering, seeing how LO Writer doesn't have "chapters"..
I agree, that it would solve some problem +1

The command has been change from Outline Numbering to Chapter Numbering for bug 107573 with some concerns, see bug 107573 comment 3. The patch should not only change the UNO command label but also the various UIs, a tip of the day, and some strings. The code contains a lot of comments talking about "chapter numbering".

(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #4) > The patch should not only change the UNO command label ... Patch in comment 5 changed UNO and a few UI labels. > but also the various UIs, will do this in subsequent patches. Some interact with current changes in insert index and insert caption dialogs, so will make separate patches. > a tip of the day in process... > and some strings. in help? Will also update those. > The code contains a lot of comments talking about "chapter numbering". Will not make any changes to the source code comments, which is outside the scope of this ticket. The aim is to update all references to "Chapter Numbering" in the UI (including tooltip/extended tips) and help. In this connection....one question.... Could not figure out how to get Style Inspector to show "Para Chapter Numbering Level" so cannot evaluate whether a change is needed in that label. Any insights? inspectorproperties.hrc line 199, …R_NUMBERING_LEVEL NC_("RID_ATTRIBUTE_NAMES_MAP", "Para Chapter Numbering Level")

(In reply to sdc.blanco from comment #6) > Could not figure out how to get Style Inspector to show "Para Chapter > Numbering Level" so cannot evaluate whether a change is needed in that > label. RID_PARA_CHAPTER_NUMBERING_LEVEL is ParaChapterNumberingLevel points to UNO_NAME_PARA_CHAPTER_NUMBERING_LEVEL maps to FN_UNO_PARA_CHAPTER_NUMBERING_LEVEL but I cannot find how it comes into play eventually. Maybe per macro? Anyway, relabeling seems cheap.

afaict - the phrase "Chapter Numbering" does not appear any more in the UI (including tooltips and extended tips), except for "Para Chapter Numbering Level" in Style Inspector (never figured out how to make it appear, so left it unchanged). Similarly, "chapter numbering" does not appear in the online help (with one legitimate exception), so closing this ticket as FIXED.
