screenshot of Chapter Info Entries dialog

1. Insert - Table of Contents and Index - Table of Contents, Index, or Bibliography

2. Select "Type" tab, then select any Type (except for "Table of Contents" or "Bibliography")

3. Select "Entries" tab

4. Insert "Chapter Info" to Structure, then click on "Chapter Info"

New options are displayed (screenshot attached).

Proposals:

1. "Chapter Info" should be named "Heading Info" (or "Heading" might be sufficient): because this control is providing information from headings, not from chapters (outline level 1 paragraphs) alone.

2. If proposal 1 is accepted, then of course the "CI" should change to "HI" (or "H").

3. "chapter entry" label should be improved, with "chapter" -> "heading"

and "entry" does not sound right. Could not think of a suitable
alternative. Maybe "entry" can be dropped -- given that the dropdown box
     contents quickly explains its meaning.

4. "number range" in dropdown box for "Chapter entry" sounds wrong.
      probably "heading number" is accurate.

5. "description" also sounds wrong. Perhaps "heading contents"
Comment 1 Heiko Tietze 2023-02-20 10:59:51 UTC
1. My take would be "Heading Info"
2. to be discussed, see also bug 153561; in this case it's more reasonable
3. How about "Heading type:" or just "Reference:"
4. "Heading number" introduces another term; and is _number_ correct for ABC... (according the chapter numbering dialog it is, so +1)
5. My first idea was "Numbers only", "Text only", "Number and Text" but maybe we can align with the cross-reference options

1. Ok. "Heading Info"
2. will wait for discussion
3. Could label this control: "Heading Info" -- which would keep the link to the button. See next point.
4-5. This control is similar to Document Field "Heading" (see bug 153560), which now uses "heading number" and "heading contents" and "heading number and contents"
(these three labels correspond to, and seem like better labels, for the current dropdown box labels). If "heading" was always in the dropdown box, then the link to "Heading Info" (points 1 and 3) should be apparent.

Select "E#" in ToC Entries tab. The dropdown box for "Format" offers "Number" and "Number without separator". This is consistent with point that this control is like Document Field (where Heading Number, Heading Contents, etc. are listed in the "Format" field). Not recommending to use "Format" with "Heading Info" in the Index Entries tab - just highlighting the underlying concept of what is going on.

screenshot of proposed changes

Now that bug 153561 is more or less resolved, it should be possible to move ahead with this ticket.

The attachment gives a screenshot of the dialog, with some callout boxes that indicate the proposed/intended changes, which summarise the discussion in the last few comments.

If there are no objections/alternative suggestions, then I will go ahead with the changes indicated in the screenshot.

No need to repeat "Heading" in the dropdown. Just "Number", "Content" (why plural?), ...

Ok. No "Heading"

> (why plural?), ...
No conscious decision behind using "contents",
but here are some post-facto rationalizations:

1. Following the choice made for "Heading" type variable (Ctrl+F2, Document tab, select "Heading" type).

2. "contents" signals that all contents are included (e.g., when are there multiple sentences in a heading), while "content" is more ambiguous (e.g., could select some "content" from the "contents of the heading").

3. If the "heading" is a kind of "container" or "box" where text is located, then "contents of the box (heading)" sounds better/more accurate than the "content of the box (heading)".
