Description Rafael Lima 2023-02-24 13:34:03 UTC
In Writer we do not have a way to define a default character (or maybe paragraph) style for comments, that are applicable to the comment as soon as it is created.

We do have a "Format all comments" command that formats all comments created up to that moment, but it does not affect future comments.

I believe we should have a way to define the default comment character style.

The situation that made me request this new feature is the following: When writing academic papers in English, the language is set to English in the paragraph and character styles. However, since the authors of the paper are non-English speakers (in my case we speak Portuguese), the comments are written in Portuguese, but as soon as they're created they use the English language by default, hence marking all comments as spelling mistakes.

To fix the above issue, I use the "Format all comments" command and set the language to Portuguese. However, any new comment will be created in English and then I have to run "Format all comments" again.

I don't know exactly how we should fix this issue, but here are two options:

1) We could make it so that the settings defined by the "Format all comments" feature are applied to subsequent comments in the same Writer section.

2) We could define a "Comment" character style and use it as default for any comment in the document (however styles are not supported by comments ATM).
