Open Insert - TOC/Index dialog, Type tab, with Type "Table of Contents" In "Create From" section, proposal: "Additional styles" -> "Selected styles" Main reason: It is possible to make a TOC using only the "Selected styles" option (so it is not "Additional"). Elaboration: 1. Presumably "Additional" was chosen in relation to "Headings" (with the assumption that "Headings" was always selected, so one could "add" some styles?). Also, if "Headings" is chosen, then it is not possible to modify their index level using "Assign Styles". (iow, if Heading is selected, then the "Additional styles" really are "additional"). 2. But if Headings is not checked, then "Additional styles" could be used to make a TOC using Heading PS (e.g., "Heading 5" and "Heading 7" or just "Heading 4"). 3. Similarly, an (ToC) Index could be created from non-Heading PS, without using "Heading" => "Selected styles" is part of the "Create From" section, where this option alone could be used to create a ToC (index). NB. with type "User-defined index", this same control is labeled "Styles", but there is no "Headings" in that dialog. "Selected" signals that choices are involved (in contrast to "Headings", which gives no choice).
Although I don't see the need for a change here, I recommend to change also name of button, if we change from "additional styles" to "selected styles". Since it is not obvious which styles are selected or where to select styles, I would change button to "select styles" to make funtion more easier to understand.
"Selected Styles" sounds to me as if checking "Outline" (now "Heading") activates these styles in the dialog, or not. Just "Styles" is okay but I don't struggled with "Additional" and suggest to keep it thinking of unnecessary burden for the l10n team.
Created attachment 186393 [details] screenshot of TOC dialog (In reply to Dieter from comment #1) (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #2) Have attached screenshot of the situation that motivated the OP. If "Heading" is not selected, then "Additional Styles" are not really "Additional". And any PS (in Heading Numbering) can be affected (or ignored), depending on the selection in "Assign Styles". The word "Additional" is only meaningful, when Heading *is* selected, because selections in "Assign Styles" have no effect for the PS selected by "Heading" (i.e., only Additional styles are affected). > "Selected Styles" sounds to me as if checking "Outline" (now "Heading") > activates these styles in the dialog, or not. Maybe it sounds like that. But then dialog conventions would have "Additional Styles" indented 18px in relation to "Heading". (iow dialog guidelines should reduce that likely interpretation.) WF is fine with me. OP was probably motivated by the Telesto/Eyal preference/ideal of completely transparent UI. If someone is familiar with using the dialog, then the label (Styles, Selected Styles, Additional Styles) probably has little significance. The issue is only an issue if one is trying to use the dialog for the first time (and does not want to read the documentation).
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #2) > suggest to keep it thinking of unnecessary burden for the l10n team. (In reply to sdc.blanco from comment #3) > WF is fine with me. ... issue is (user) does not want to read the documentation It's a very advanced option anyway.
