Description wmh120845 2023-03-19 16:36:12 UTC
Description:
Screen-shot 0.bmp shows the version-number of LibreOffice, from Writer, using "Help" and "About". However, the more established release 7.4.6.2 also shows the same problem.
Screen-shot 1.bmp shows a text with the cursor at the start of a black paragraph. Text-content and colors are irrelevant, used merely to make the problem easy to see.
Screen-shot 2.bmp shows the text after "ENTER" has been pressed.
Screen-shot 3.bmp shows the text after "ENTER" has again been pressed.
Screen-shot 4.bmp shows the text after "BACKSPACE" has been pressed. Here is the problem: widow-line suppression has been invoked, even though it has been turned off in all possible ways. The text-situation persists, even if the cursor is moved; however, if the document is saved and re-loaded, the widow-line suppression disappears.
Screen-shot 5.bmp shows the text after "BACKSPACE" has again been pressed. There is no longer a widow-line, so the situation is identical to screen-shot 1.bmp.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. See above
2.
3.

Actual Results:
See above

Expected Results:
No widow-line suppression.

Reproducible: Always

Comment 7 V Stuart Foote 2023-03-20 14:41:22 UTC
You have to deal with Widows, Orphans and Runts:

*Widow*: A paragraph-ending line that falls at the beginning of the following page or column, thus separated from the rest of the text. (They have a past but no future.)

*Orphan*: A paragraph-opening line that appears by itself at the bottom of a page or column, thus separated from the rest of the text. (They have no past but a future.)

*Runt*: Single, short word at the end of a paragraph.

This is manipulated via Paragrah style, from the 'Text flow' tab.

We don't do anything for *Runts*, but by default for bug 89714 [1] both the *Widow* and the *Orphan* were set active to values of "2" instead of set "0".

Just verified with sample document that the two values are still being set and the editshell correctly handles both widow and orphan paragraph lines.

Open attached sample Flat ODTs -- with Widow control, Orphan control, and neither. Examine the widow, orphan and runt.

Then check your applied Paragraph Style(s), but to me behavior seems intact.
