Sometimes I have very similar files and if there are > 3 files open it's not that easy to know which file is which.

Would it be possible to change the app colors with one click so you can define for each libreoffice writer window different colors. So it's easier to separate them.

So I can make one window green, red, ... to separate them visally.

Have you every seen such a solution in any other program?

Such a colorization cannot work per tools > options > application color and I see no other place to show colors but the title bar. Which would be bug 115512 with additional flexibility. Can we merge the two topics, ie. making this one a duplicate?

Sure you can mark it as duplicate.

The "easies" app would be impress, where it would be cool (maybe not possible), if the App UI colors depend on the impress colors. But there it's not so difficult to separate between different open presentations.

AGAIN I ordinary work with > 3 writer files. The filename is different, but the document layout is in every (company) document similar (company document branding).

The issue, I'll discuss is, how to separate visually easy between > 3 open impress files.
- in the app bar you have always the same app icon
- the previews are white with text on it, where the text is tiny
- Have them splitted on the screen, the only difference is the filename

The question, I would like to discuss is:
- How can you separate >3 very similar writer documents easy?

user defined background color

If we only change the background, that it would be a separate "bug". Which can be solved with right click on the background where you can pick a predefined color.

Something the user may know from sticky notes.

I don't know where the background color from the app come from, but if you can change the color by the user without open the file, it would be not a big deal to fix the bug.

The "feature" can be located at the right click, so no cluttered UI and if the user didn't use it, no problem.

I would ask for reopen the bug report. Maybe we can discuss the idea and if possible give some code pointer.

compare to change the writer toolbar to blue, a file specific setting would have also an additional usecase. Most of the time you know if the file is an writer or impress file.

Sure change the window decoration color (and other colors) could be also usefull (at least for light/dark colors), but one step after the other.

Hi Andreas, I hope you are well? You raise some very interesting points and I completely agree with you. We should be making better use colour, particularly in areas like the title/header bar. It is also a good place for branding based on each distinct application in the Libre Office.

Similar to RFE of bug 125443, fair to say that satisfying this request would require CSD cross platform.

With CSD implemented (bug 113388), doing a per document decoration would be feasible.

Without CSD the only "hints" during multi document editing are LO module (via the colored icons), and the file name. os/DE then provides the support.

Meanwhile an arbitrary color per document could be applied to the app background, but that would not help too much when the document is minimized as os/DE supports.

Only a full CSD framework would support it, and honestly I'd rather see the dev effort put into the framework needed for functional MDI (of bug 37134)

IMHO this would more correctly be dupe of work needed for bug 113388
