Description David Hoefler 2023-05-05 17:09:30 UTC
I was creating a spreadsheet that contains some daily receipts type data. I keep the days separated by having a separate tab ( in a single spreadsheet file) for each day.

When adding individual column totals against a master total of receipts, I wanted to put a conditional cell format in place to have a visual indicator showing that the totals didn't match. Libreoffice allows me to put the conditional format with out any issues. Works perfectly! But, when I copy the tab to a new tab (for another day), the conditional formats don't stay the same. Some formula's are combined together so the formatting comes out wrong. My spreadsheet usually has about 20+ of these conditional formats.

Thanks for taking the time to read. I appreciate it!

Please attach a sample file as simple as possible, to test.

Please paste here the information on Menu/Help/About LibreOffce (There is an icon to copy)

The problem lies in the copying/duplicating of tabs in a spreadsheet. When a tab is copied, the conditional rules are combined if the cells on the left half of the equation fall within a range of each other. Even though the right side of the rule equation is not the same, the conditional statements are still combined upon a tab copy/duplication.

Here's how you can test the situation:

1. In the sample spreadsheet, notice the tab titles "sample sheet, base sheet"

2. Inspect the conditional rule set. Menu sequence: Format > Conditional > Manage. Notice the rule set and its values on the left/right side of the individual rules.

3. Copy the Tab to another tab.

4. Inspection the conditional rule set of the new Tab. Notice the differences. The rules are combined if the cells that are within the rule set are within a range even though the condition is not the same. Hence, the bug.

I hope I have explained this properly. First time I have ever done something like this. Not sure if this is detailed enough for what you need. Please feel free to contact me again if you need some other information regarding this matter.

Copying the tab produce the same results about how cells are formatted.

Reunifying the cell ranges, with the same cell condition, was a long-expected behavior.

In this case, the reunifying is right, because the formula condition has relative references, what lets the conditional format iterates through the ranges.

After reunifying:
For C7 it uses the formula SUM(E7:L7)
for C9:C14 it uses the formula SUM(E9:L9) .. SUM(E10:L10) and so on.

I can't see any bug, except you dislike reunifying, but if it works fine, reducing the number of conditions, simplifying to manage them, it is an advantage.
