Description Thomas Cameron 2023-05-17 03:11:54 UTC
Description:
I use Impress at work because I'm a Linux user in a sea of Windows and Mac folks. My company distributes Power Point .pptx files. When I open them in Impress, there are a number of glitches, but the worst is that the speaker notes get mangled.

I posted some sanitized pix to https://imgur.com/a/vEgGwZm - the first is what I see when I view notes in Impress. The second is what I actually see on the notes page when I'm presenting.

In Notes view, I see a paragraph break and bullet points. In the presentation notes, I don't see a paragraph break, and no bullets. I've taken to editing every slide deck and I have to add a space on every newline for every paragraph break. I remove bullets and substitute a dash or double dash so I can follow bullets. It's really frustrating and time consuming. Every time my employer posts an update to slides, I have to edit 12-15 units and insert spaces for every newline, delete bullets, and add dashes.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a pptx file.
2. Present and try to read notes.
3. Notes do not reflect paragraph breaks or any special characters

Actual Results:
Paragraph breaks are not honored, and the newline is lost. Special characters like bullet points or numbers are not displayed in the presenter notes. It's really hard to use the notes. I have to manually edit each of the 12-15 units for the presentations I have and remove bullets and numbers and manually add dashes in place of bullets and manually type line numbers.

Expected Results:
The notes in the presenter console should show paragraph breaks and display characters like bullets or numbers.

Reproducible: Always

Sorry for my ignorance, but can you explain why this was set to UNCONFIRMED? Is the slide I posted not exhibiting the behavior I called out for you?

Just in case it's just me and you're not seeing it, here are the steps I did to confirm the behavior.

1) Deleted all the slides from a deck I got in pptx format except for one.
2) Sanitized the slide so that it doesn't have any company info in it.
3) Pressed F5 to display the slide deck.
4) Checked the console notes.
5) Noted that the special characters like bullets are not displayed.
6) Noted that the paragraph break that I inserted in the notes does not show up in the console.

Expected results: the paragraph break should show up in the notes on the console. The bullet points should show up in the notes on the console.

Please let me know if you need anything else from me.

Hi Thomas, someone else has to test and reproduce the bug first, and then set it to the CONFIRMED status.

Many thanks for the clarification, Mike. I was worried I'd reported it badly. That makes sense.

This is a known missing feature.
