I was just using Draw to edit a PDF and was getting extremely frustrated. The PDF was an order invoice and I needed to cover certain areas of the invoice that had sensitive information before I sent it to where it needed to go. The problem is, despite being called Draw, the actual part where you can draw (like actually drawing freeform) was very hard to find. I first clicked on the square near the top of the side bar (Line Color) and thought okay so I can use this to select the line color and then I should be able to click and drag to draw, right? Nope. Despite the "Line Color" box having a paintbrush icon if you click and drag to draw (like you should be able to) nothing happens. The actual Draw option is hidden in the side bar within the "Curves abnd Polygons" section and is the last listed option in that section. For something being literally called Draw, it should not be that difficult to find out how to draw using it. Also, options for the freeform drawing are either impossible to find or nonexistent. To my knowledge you cannot adjust the thickness of the freeform line nor the opacity, it is just a skinny little line so you can't scribble with it and cover large portions of a page like I wanted to be able to. I think fixing this will give Draw a lot of needed functionality and user-friendliness, because as it stands now it is the exact opposite of intuitive. If options such as thickness and opacity adjustments do currently exist in Draw they really need to be easier to access because if someone like me that is experienced using productivity software cannot figure it out, I can only imagine how frustrating it would be for someone who is less experienced or is at least new to using LibreOffice. Please consider these issues worth looking in to and fixing. Thank you.
Sorry, the LibreOffice ODF Drawing editor draw module is already intuitive and easy to use. Please read the manual: https://books.libreoffice.org/en/DG74/DG74.html, and see chpt 2 for working with the rectangles and squares you probably would prefer over drawing a line feature (which also works, but requires change stroke to a custom weight 40 or 50pt). Also, if you filter "Opened" a PDF into Draw, that is an error prone work flow as all elements of the PDF will be parsed (with variable fidelity to original) onto the drawing canvas. It is much better to split your PDF into pages outside LibreOffice (e.g. with PDFtk or such) and then import each into Draw as a full image. And then apply graphics (lines or polygons) to "redact" things from the dra. As the default dpi resolution of the inserted PDF page defaults to 96dpi, if you need crisper resolution set the environment variable "PDFIMPORT_RESOLUTION_DPI" to some higher resolution, 600 DPI should suffice for this type workflow.
