Description Fenton Heirtzler 2023-07-30 17:50:08 UTC
Description:
If I select Language/for all text (but not "for paragraph" or "selection") LO gives the spinning wheel and crashes. Repeatedly.
Also, LO will sometimes also not select the language when attempting a simple language check.
I've already tried resetting to the default language under "Preferences". No change.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open odt file
2. Select Tools/Language/for all text/English (USA)
3. Spinning wheel, Mac reports crash under Force Quit/restart

Actual Results:
Sequentially: Crash, spinning wheel, restart LO, request to restore document, changes (just before the crash) aren't saved.

Expected Results:
It should have loaded the requested dictionary (either standard English, German or user-created technical dictionaries).
When I try tools/spelling, LO refuses to upload any language and no corrections are implemented.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
It doesn't crash when I select Tools/Language/For Selection (or For Paragraph). But is also doesn't check the spelling.

"resetting UserProfile"? I have no such profile. I just start the program.

Please test in safe mode, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode

This should be resolved in 7.5.5. Can you please update and let us know if that's the case?

Comment 3 Fenton Heirtzler 2023-07-31 16:21:44 UTC
UPDATE 31. Juli 2023:
I've restarted the Mac in safe mode, from an "administrator" account on the same computer (for my own work, I use a non-admin account)
I started LO in the admin account, and selected 'language/for all text' and there was no crash.
But then I switched to the regular user account, and the crashing continued.
Comment 4 m_a_riosv 2023-07-31 21:01:36 UTC
Then, please test with a clean profile, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode, in your user.

Have you updated to version 7.5.5?
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/
If so, and you still can see the crash, please paste here the information copied from LibreOffice > About.
Comment 6 Julien Nabet 2023-09-05 12:25:07 UTC
As Stéphane indicated, could you upgrade to LO 7.5.5 ?
Indeed, it might be already fixed with patch for tdf#155939 and in this case, this bugtracker would be a duplicate.

Comment 8 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2024-03-04 05:28:52 UTC
Let's go with duplicate.
Fenton, if you can still reproduce in a recent version, please attach a sample file / new steps, and set back to "unconfirmed".
Thank you!
