Description: The line-by-line format of Track Changes -> Compare Document is too difficult to understand. Even the instructions to begin with the newest document and then open the oldest document is flawed, since file dates are often unreliable and edits may have been made to both files. Please implement side-by-side comparison of Writer documents with highlighting of differences, with "keep this version" buttons next to each difference. While we're at it, include options for "ignore formatting" so we can choose to compare only the words. Thank you very much. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Edit -> Track Changes -> Compare Documents. Actual Results: A small window with a series of red X and green + often wit the same author Expected Results: A small window with a series of red X and green + often wit the same author Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: See https://www.draftable.com/compare for example of side-by-side comparison
See Meld, WinMerge and Examdiff at https://rigorousthemes.com/blog/best-text-comparison-tools/ for desired results
I can see how this would improve the readability in comparing two versions of the same document. Somewhat linked to the split view requested in bug 31481.
