The Table pane of the Table | Properties... dialog has a "Properties" section, with the control:

Text Direction: [  ...   ]


That control doesn't only control the superordinate-object direction for table cells. It is the _table_ direction, controlling for example which side of the table the first column is placed at, and in which direction the columns progress. If you flip the direction - the entire table flips, i.e. the first column is exchanged with the last etc.

So, it's a mis-labeling.
