Sample of Header Enhancement

Currently, when you choose Header on in the Header tab of the Page dialog, the Header paragraph style is automatically associated with the header of the page style.

It would be nice if a selection was added to the Header tab so you could choose whether to use the Header Right or Header Left paragraph style.

It would be nice if a similar selection was added to the Footer tab of the Page Style dialog to choose whether to use the Footer Right or Footer Left paragraph style.

Don, thank you for enhancement request. Unfortunately it's not clear in your sample dialog that "Left Header" and "Right header" refers to the paragraph style. And there is no page style whre you can set pragraph style. I'm afraid, that if you start with with this in header and footer settings we will have some enhancement requests to add this option to page style dialog in general. But I won't mix page style and paragraph style here.

A possible solution might be to add PS "Header Left" and to header in page style "Left Page" by default (same for "Header Right" and "Right Page").

Currently, if I set up a right hand page style, there is only a choice for Header on. When I create a header on the page in the document using this right hand page style, the cursor goes to the left and the Page Styles area in the Sidebar indicates that the Header paragraph style is being used. I must change this to Header Right in order for the cursor to start at the right.

My thought was: It would be a nice enhancement if, when I set up my right hand page style, I could get the header to automatically use the Header Right page style rather than the parent Header page style.

I don't know how hard this would be. I just thought I would make the suggestion. I'm always looking for ways to make writing a document more efficient. That is why I like the LibreOffice emphasis on styles and encourage others to use styles rather than direct formatting.

Looking at my illustration after reading your comment, I see that the dialog says "Page Style: _My Page Style" rather than "Page Style: _My Right Page" or "Page Style: _My Left Page".

In the supposed workflow you create a page style A ("left", "even"...) and B, and make the one follow the other. Then you set-up header/footer for each of the two PgS with all needed attributes. The page layout "Left/Right" simplifies this workflow.

Now you may have predefined settings for the header in mind, eg. to right-align content for right pages. But RTL users have opposite needs, or if you plan to bind a book from top, etc. Flexibility is key and we should not configure a lot of predefined scenarios.

Or have I missed something?

I didn't think of the other considerations you mentioned about RTL text or binding on top.

I now understand why my idea wouldn't be a good one to implement.

So let's resolve WF.
