Description marcusfb@gmail.com 2023-12-09 01:58:15 UTC
Description:
I cannot find any function that allows one to choose a thicker border for a cell/ row/ column.... left/right..... top/bottom.

The only options I see relate to placement, style and colour but no thickness. These are located as icons on the task bar at the top. I could not find these functions amongst the dropdown list of available functions!

Thicker border generated by Excel 2013 edition does appear in Calc but a new thick border cannot be created by your software.

Check Sidebar Properties panel, Cell Appearance. The selection offered for border styles is different from what is in the toolbar button. You can also check Format Cells (Ctrl+1) - Borders - Width.

The change in border styles was another issue.... I got mixed up now :-D.

Sorry

Can't these options be grouped where it is more logical to look for them rather than as currently the case?

Ok, if you have a proposal, we can ask the design team. Let me know what you envision.

My suggestion would apply to anything.

In this case, border type, style, colour, thickness should be grouped together in one place with a drop down menu sort of thing from the 'border' icon (the short cut) & from top menu >

Format
 > Border
   > Type
      > top
      > bottom
      > etc etc
   > Style
      > Single
      > Double
   > Thickness
      > etc
   > Colour
      > etc.

Picking some attributes for exposure in the main menu is not a good idea, IMO. Beside access via sidebar you can always use the dialog to change the border. A bit awkward admittedly, see bug 143249 with a proposal how to improve, but possible (Format cells > tab "Borders" > select either a preset or click at the widget after choosing your preferred width). If you seek for a control besides sidebar and dialog, it would be a duplicate of bug 141774. Resolving WF, feel free to reopen when needed.
