Description jacob.sternig 2024-01-02 07:14:39 UTC
Description:
When minimizing Libresoft Writer program using top corner minimization, window shrinks to narrow window and unable to restore window size.

Tried the Unminimize button, and use the Unmaximize and Maximize feature for the window but it didn't get restored. I was able to eventually find it, but the size is so small, it is hard to restore using a labtop touchpad mouse.

This bug is probably present on all Libresoft windows like Calc, Writer, Presentation, but haven't confirmed that yet. However, have confirmed it is present in Writer. Seems to happen with near-empty "untitled" documents more than it with documents with actual pages of writing.

Steps to Reproduce:
Only reproduced it a couple of times. There has to be multiple windows open on the taskbar.
1. Click on the Minimize button on the top-right-hand corner of the window (_)
2. Once minimized, click on file in the taskbar with left button. It will not be able to select it the first time.
3. Click once more on the same file in the taskbar with the left click, and then right click on the same file in the task bar.
4. Select the Unminimize feature from the list after right clicking. If things are working, the window will appear. However, in some cases randomly, the mouse left click will appear to do nothing. You will only be able to see a problem once you minimize all other windows, and click on the original file to see the discoloration from the "sliver window" on the bug.

Actual Results:
It appeared that the open file was non-existent and appeared to close. I had to close all the windows and select that original file to see that the "minimized" window was a sliver on the screen, with a grey slice a few pixels wide. I had to use my mouse to expand the window from a sliver to an actual sizeable window.

Expected Results:
Window should have just reappeared at its original window size, or in its maximized window size with good visibility.

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
[Information automatically included from LibreOffice]
Locale: en-US
Module: TextDocument
[Information guessed from browser]
OS: Linux (All)
OS is 64bit: yes

One last detail. I found that my computer was in the middle of a TimeShift on the OS, which means it is in the middle of backing up the settings. This could be taking up processing power and limiting full functionality.

Lastly, though it is a visual bug, User instinct is to close the file, losing latest information in file. It is somewhere between Normal Severity and Minor Severity.

What is "Libresoft"? I.e., is your question related to LibreOffice, or is it some custom distribution, which could have own quirks?

Seems like a dupe of bug 125543, or see also the profile munge on upgrade for bug 152212

For OP please upgrade from EOL 7.3.7 release build to current 7.6.4, or master build against 24.2.0 release.

And at a minimum cleared user profile to rule out bug 152212 issues.

s/24.2.0/24.8.0 as nightly,

with the 24.2.0 beta1 available as prerelease for testing.

Yes. Your correct.
It is LibreOffice Writer.

I'll review and install the recommended update!
