Description John van Someren 2024-01-26 16:30:34 UTC
Description:
I often use Alt0233 to type é. The Alt Key is held down while the four digits are keyed and then Alt is released. It works fine on this web page! My Logitech keyboard has a separate 10-key pad and the system boots up with Num Lock on ( this is my assumption: it generates digits, but Logitech has not provided a light for any of the three Lock keys. Grrrr.)

I have been using this facility for several years (including lots and lots of times in 2023), but not needed it until recently. Now, The Alt 0 does nothing, the 2 opens the Styles pane and the Alt 3 opens the Gallery pane. This is a pain.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Use a keyboard with a 10 key pad to the right of the typewriter keyboard. Make sure Num Lock is on and confirm (using any program) that the 10-key pad generates digits.
2.Start a new LO Writer document and type half a dozen digits on the 10-key pad to make sure that it is generating digits as expected.
3. Press and hold the Alt key (I use the one to the left of the space bar)
4. Type 0233 on the 10 key pad and release the Alt key
5. Expect to see é

I have reset my user profile and the fault remains.

3.

Actual Results:
My version ignores the Alt key, ignores the 0, senses the 2 and opens the Styles pane and senses the 3, replacing the styles pane with the Gallery pane.

Expected Results:
é

The Alt key and 10-key pad still respond as usual in all other Windows programs (I just tried SQL Server Management Studio, Excel and TeamViewer. All three of these generate the é character)

Reproducible: Always

Thanks for filing but please review the cause and solution on the duplicate bug.

Alt + Numpad code entry will be restored/enhanced at the 24.2 release. Both the 3-digit OEM flavor and the Windows 4-digit flavor you note. Enhanced now to offer the full Unicode SMB (via decimal values) as Alt + codes via the keyboard Numpad. While the <Alt> + keyboard numbers will deliver the Sidebar short cuts.
