Description Chris Kirkland 2024-02-05 19:16:25 UTC
Description:
Following upgrade charts in a Calc file were found to be images and no longer OLE objects. This happened when uppgrading from 7.5 to 7.6 and has happened again upgrading from 7.6.4 to 24.2.0.3.
Upgrade has been done using the .msi file and the offline help was also installed each time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. All LibreOffice files are closed (version 7.6.4.1)
2. LibreOffice .msi file is download (version 24.2.0.3)
3. msi file is run and option of Custom Installation is used.
4. Installation location is kept as default, no changes are made. Changes were made in previous version to choose dictionaries and interface langgueage, UK English.
5. Help files are also installed.
6. Computer is restarted.
7. LibreOffice is run and file opened.
8. When new data is added to the Calc file it is found that the relevant chart is not updated.
9. When trying to open the relevant chart it is found it has been converted to an image.

Actual Results:
Chart is converted to image in Calc.

Expected Results:
Chart should remain as a chart.

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
The previous version 7.6.4.1 was installed as a parallel install. Opening the Calc file in this version also shows the Chart as an image.
Sorry, as the file contains a lot of personal information I cannot share it.

But maybe you can reduce it to minimum size and clear/replace private data.

Sorry, the charts (now images) are there to show that private data too. I will try to find a way to recreate the problem when I have the time.
The original file was created in 2010, probably using OpenOffie.org and used almost daily since then. The Calc file has 42 sheets and is 49 MB. The charts were recreated when the same problem occured with LO 7.6.

Which format are the files saved as?

It is .ods format and always has been. It was created in 2010.

I have tested on Windows 11:

1. Create a chart in an ODS file with LO 7.6.5.2
2. Open ODS file in 24.2.0.3

I could not reproduce.
Marking as "need info" while we wait for a potential example file.

If you still have the original file (with OLE objects), you could try to reset your user profile (after backing up the original) and open the file again with the newer version, see if the issue persists.

Hi, The original file lost the OLE part of the objects and left them only as images. There are no OLE objects left in the file, only images. I have copied the data into a new file in case it is something to do with the original file's make-up or an error that has crept in over the years.
I Have converted the file to zip and compared with a Calc file with a chart.
Faulty file has:
Configurations2 [folder]
META-INF [folder]
Pictures [folder]
Thumbnails [folder]
Content.xml
Manifest.rdf
meta.xml
mimetype
settings.xml
styles.xml
File with chart:
Configurations2 [folder]
META-INF [folder]
Object 1 [folder]
ObjectReplacements [folder]
Thumbnails [folder]
Content.xml
Manifest.rdf
meta.xml
mimetype
settings.xml
styles.xml
I'm not sure if this helps.

I can confirm that this issue is still valid on LO 25.2.2.2, but unfortunately i don't have a way to reproduce it (yet).
Libreoffice crashed for whatever reason and allowed me to restore the document.
However, I noticed a bit later that all charts were converted to images.
No upgrade of LibreOffice versions in between, no idea what was going on...
Luckily, I had file versioning so i could restore the previous working version.
I am using Microsoft Office formats.

I uploaded the two files before and after the unintended conversion was done.
Maybe it helps something...
