Description J22Gim 2024-03-16 10:16:06 UTC
Description:
It would be great if the clock/timer (shown on the bottom part during a double-screen presentation) would be made available to the single-screen presentation mode as well.
Maybe just as an option in Slideshow settings, or just make it available as an object/element that can be just added to a slide (then the user can use it on single slides or the master slides).

Steps to Reproduce:
You want to track the time from the beginning of the presentation and/or the time your current slide is taking.

Actual Results:
The clock/timer is accessible when the presentation is in double-screen mode.

Expected Results:
Two options come to mind
1) The clock/timer is available as a slideshow setting for single-screen presentation mode
2) the clock/timer is made available as an object that can be placed into a slide. This can be then used in a single slide, or it can be added to the master slide where it would time the presentation from the beginning.

Reproducible: Always

Makes sense to me. Let's hear the UX team.

Strikes me rather as a 3rd party extension. Remember that we use application and platform agnostic file format including the export to html and svg.

I'm not sure I understand this part. Doesn't the current clock in double-screen mode respect that? Then what would be different if included in the 1-screen mode?
Or you were referring to the option of having it as an element to place in any slide?

I thought you talk about a timer/clock element that can be added to the slide similar to a page number. And at this point you need to save/load it to not only ODF but all/most other formats too.

Apparently you talk about the presenter console and it's timer. Do you?

I don't really get why the audience should see the timer.

We discussed the topic in the design meeting.

Compatibility is prime and introducing a new feature in odf requires not only other applications to support it but also to provide import/export filter in other formats. Microsoft Powerpoint apparently also lacks on a presentation timer that could be the counter, or a count down, and even the time of day. Recommendation is always to use a macro, and ideally share it on the extensions site.

There is "Reherse Timings" which is the same as a normal slide show, but shows the time you are taking at one slide. I think a timer like that (but total time taken instead of per slide) could be added to Slide Show Properties...

I think you got more resistance to the idea because you suggested to make it an object to put on the slides.

Feel free to reopen, J22.

Hi, thanks everyone for considering this.
Yes, I think what Tomaz Vajngerl suggests is something useful.

Heiko Tietze, one possible use of this is when you want the speaker and the audience to see how much the talk is taking. This would encourage people to stick to the time limit in a conference for example (without the need of external clocks).

I re-open this for further consideration. Thanks for allowing the possibility of dogin so.

Somehow it needs to be shown anyway, and I don't think you can add this to the slide show. But the use case makes sense and we can keep it.
