Screenshot showing words that had been added shown as deletions.

I am finding Writer 24.2.2.2 crashing a few times a day, while I am editing a document. Of most concern is that, when I re-open the document - it doesn't always give me the choice of Document Recovery - I find that a lot of edits I added shortly before the crash being shown as deletions. (See screenshot.) Consequently, I have to review the whole document to find and reject these deletions. That there may a large number of unintended deletions is, needless to say, worrying.

NB I don't have the permissions, but I think this needs to be flagged as Major, or even Critical.

Thanks and regards

This may be specific to DOCX files that have been edited in Microsoft Word.

p.wibberly, thank you for reporting the bug. Does it happen with every docx-file or only with a specific one. Is it possible to attach it here? Do you get a link to a crash report (You can enable sending a report with Tools -> Options -> LibreOffiece -> General)? Please paste it here.

Dieter,

Thank you for your comment. The file is a piece of work for a client, and is a little confidential. Let me see if I can reproduce the problem with a non-confidential document. I'll also see if I generate the report, as per your suggestion.

Thanks and regards

Peter

Thanks for the report.
- please install version 24.2.3 (or above), as some crashes have been fixed
- if you manage to create a sample file, please attach it here

I tested the following:
0. Set autoRecovery time setting to 1 minute
1. Create a new Writer document, insert some sample text, turn on track changes (show and record), save
2. Add some text in various places
3. Wait for 1+ minute
4. Kill soffice process
5. Relaunch LO
6. Recover file when prompted

I could not reproduce the bug. Additions are shown as additions. I tested both ODT and DOCX.

Hi,

Give me a few days to find some examples. Given that problem seems to manifest itself with documents originated with Microsoft Word (and hence not me), the problem is finding examples that private to the another party.

Thanks and regards
