Description iqemail-go 2024-07-06 18:14:01 UTC
Option not working

Menu:Tools:Options:Calc:General
Input Settings: <Press Enter to move selection>

This checkbox & drop down list option does not honor what you select. No matter which direction option you choose, the UI always moves the cursor right when the <Enter> key is pressed.

Upgraded to latest version, still not working. Bug is not fixed.
Selection always moves to right with <Enter> key regardless of option setting.

Please close all your LO documents.

Then open a new Calc > menu Help > Restart in Safe Mode.

When LO restarts, there will be a dialog; click on "continue in Safe mode".

While LO runs in Safe Mode, open Calc > menu Tools > Options > Calc > General > change the setting regarding the direction result of pressing the "Enter" key. Press "Apply" and review which setting is displayed in the options dialog – is it the same setting that you intended? - press "OK".

Now that you are back into the main Calc spreadsheet (close any possible new dialog about tips or whatever), click once on some cell in the middle/center of the screen, and then press [ENTER]. Is the focus (active cell) changing towards the expected direction (that you just set in the prior step)?

Now close LO and open it again, this time in normal mode. Repeat the steps regarding the setting and test again the actual direction of movement.

Please report both results (i.e. LO in Safe mode and in normal mode).

After opening Calc in safe mode, as instructed, the <Enter> key selection honored, and remembered, all chosen <Enter> key directions in Options - it worked fine.

After closing Calc and reopening in normal mode the selection no longer worked as it was supposed to. Calc reverted to the action as originally stated in the bug - pressing <Enter> moved the selection to the right no matter what the Option chosen.

Went back and forth between safe & normal mode a few times each with same results.

To summarize, it worked in safe mode, not in normal mode.

> To summarize, it worked in safe mode, not in normal mode.

Let's try to (partially) reset the setting.

1. While in normal mode, please close all LO documents.
2. Start a new empty Calc spreadsheet > menu Tools > Options > Calc > General > change the setting regarding the direction result of pressing the "Enter" key as follows:

2.1. Review whether the checkbox for this setting is actually checked ON. If it isn't, set it to ON.
2.2. Change the setting to "Left"; press the "Apply" button;
2.3. Right; Apply;
2.4. Up; Apply;
2.5. Down; Apply; OK.

Now that you are back to the main spreadsheet, click once on a cell located in the middle/center of your screen, and press [ENTER].

Please report back.

If this does not work, then the next step would be to (backup your settings and then) completely reset all LO settings (since no one else was/is able to reproduce the problem).

Correction: set it first to OFF, click "Apply", then set it to ON again, click on "Apply".

> 2.4. Up; Apply;

Still not working. Went through all the steps, also tried as many other combinations of checking & unchecking, but selection always moves to the right.

Also, I noticed that the "Press Enter to switch to edit mode" selection doesn't seem to work either.

However the "Press Enter to paste and clear clipboard" does work.

The step that says to press "Apply" (not just to check or uncheck) is not optional.

At this point, I can only suggest to reset all settings and test again, as no one else has reported to be able to replicate the problem.

Can't reproduce this either.
I even tried both options with the numpad modified.
Maybe something with the keyboard hardware you are using, or some kind of extra software you have installed related to shortcuts / keyboard customisation?

Yes, better to reset the whole profile.
