Description Daniele 2024-07-14 12:47:24 UTC
Description:
Whe working with several comments in a text, at a certain point it is very difficult (or actually impossible) relating a comment to its place in the text. The line should change from dotted to not dotted, but when two comments are on the same line it is not clear as to which text the line is connected.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a text with two columns and various cells
2.Create 5-6 (commments in the first cell of column 1 and 5-6 comments in the first cell of column 2 Fill all comments with plenty of dummy text.
3.Chose web view (this is what I use to avoid seeing too much margin)

Actual Results:
There is no way to understand which note is related to which text. (screenshot and example file attached)

Expected Results:
The relation of note to text should be straightforward.

Reproducible: Always

This is not a direct fix for your request, but there's ongoing work to develop a sidebar to manage comments that will overcome the reported issue (see bug 106316).

Let's ask UX team, if it would be fine to close this report in favour of the soon-to-be-finished sidebar implementation.

More like a constituent issue of 38925, and thus a blocker; wouldn't you agree?

We use the depends/blocks flag for organizing topics in META tickets. And I think solving bug 38295 is essentially also a fix for this report. Well, not really a fix since these connector lines never become easy to distinguish. The real solution for many comments is the dedicated sidebar tab, as mentioned in comment 3.
