Description Karl 2024-08-05 10:57:50 UTC
Description:
Hi developers of LO.
Thanks for having it free to me !

Once i filed a REQUEST to you, THAT IS FULLY IMPLEMENTED.

I tell you ::
=============

You gave the " BRUSH TOOL " ( for transfering formats from one to other cells )

the " doubble click feature ",

SO - if doubble clicked - the formatting transfer can be used to transfer from one to MULTIPLE cells.

-> just check it out !

I do a similar request hereby:
===============================

Have the " doubble click feature " to the tool,
THAT defines " background colour " and " colour of signs " ( words numbers ... )

====================

If one is colourig calc cells by " Background / forground of signs )
the latest used colours are anyhow activated.

You can ( designing ) go to this tools an select by drop down as desired.
-cells backgroung should be green ....

To transfer SUCH background to another you can
1)
select any same formatted cell and us the drop down of background, so that the thee propety is highlighted.
2)
if you point the mouse onto the highlighted background

THIS THEN is taken over and from now on " activated ", and can easyly put on any othe cell.
======================================================================================

THIS " taken over of property and be activated from now on "

could otherwise be activated / realised by a

DOUBBLE CLICK on these tools.

======================================================================================

Best regards jk

Steps to Reproduce:
1.check it out
2.
3.

Actual Results:
You know how it works now

Expected Results:
could work as desired

Reproducible: Always

I am not sure I understand the request. Let me explain why.

With the "Clone" icon, the procedure has one source (cell/range) and a different destination (cell/range). So, instead of having to repeat the selection of the same source multiple times, the double click allows to keep the original source and apply it multiple times to different destinations.

But with the background color icon, the selection of the area on which the action is applied is performed once, before clicking on the icon. You can select multiple areas before clicking. You could even use the "repeat" action too. There is no "source" and "destination" areas; there is just a "destination" area (which could be non-adjacent too).

So, maybe I am not understanding the use-case, or the proposed procedure.

Hi,

Both tools have a " programming " of colours.
ACTUAL colours are displayed in the icons of the tools.

Lets say
" red for background " / " Black for foreground "

If you want to have a different optical formatting to a cells appearance
LIKE THE FORMATTING of a cell YOU ALLREADY have used (!!!) in your sheet

you have to figure out these formattings.

You can do it THIS WAY:

1) Point to the " source cell "
2) Use the arrow " drop down " of Background !! and the tool SHOWS THAT CLOLOUR.

If you NOW point onto the highlighted colour ( which is the " source colour )

THE TOOL for BACKGROUND ist REPROGRAMMED !!!
to this NEW ACTUAL background colour.

With these steps you can transfer appearance from one to another.

================================================================

The request is :

Have this REPROGRAMMING that way

1) pick your " source cell "
2) have a doubble click ( or any othe mechanism ) on the tzools icons
   to realise the REPROGRAMMING

( read colour of source cell -> program the tool to this colour )

================================================================

DOUBBLE CLICK ?

I just know, for example BRUSH-TOOL ( that transfers ALL Propperties )
has a doubble click ability.

So my guess is, other tools and the usage of there icons
are from the programming code perspective SIMILAR.

best regards
jk

Isn't this simple enough to do by defining cell styles? Then you can just double-click the name of the style in the Sidebar to apply the style to one or multiple cells.

Hi,

I am just a " frenquently " user !
Not a professional IT man.

Havin styles seem OK ! BEST USE ( dont know - its english ) !

The " brush " tool
- just works / with the single AND doubble click feature /
as a OPERATIONAL MASTER SCHEME

BUT it transfers ALL of propperties ( optics / formats / interpretation ( text , numbers, dates ... ) !

During Design time
- one might like the same ON ONLY Optical / Visual propperties

Ok, let us know when you have tried the style method. Direct formatting can be OK for some quick single-use purpose, but styles are much better when you are continuously working on a spreadsheet. We tend to recommend styles to users as direct formatting can make a mess out of documents, if used carelessly.

Hi,
another idea was

Like Brush tool on ALL Properties, a second one
Brush tool for OPTICS ONLY properties.

...............................................

OH GOD ! WHAT I AM I BE HUNGRY ???!!!

=====================================

Have implemented T-H-R-E-E ( 3 ) BRUSH TOOLS. ( at least in sidebar )

1. Transfer ALL Propperties
( single click -> to just ONE selected cell //
  doubble click -> to multiple )

2. Transfer ONLY Optical Propperties ( single / doubble clikced as above )

3. Transfer ONLY data interpretation an their formatting ( like number of decimals / dates in their occourances, or so )

======================================

I HEREBY WARN YOU !!
to ask me again

( Ich kann den Hals nicht voll genug bekommen -
if you dont want me to come back for more )

:-)

best wishes
juergen

Besides the proposals Edit > Redo and Styles > New Style From Selection I could suggest Edit > Paste Special (Format Only) as another method. Each has it's own advantage and is suited for a special workflow. Your closest argument to a use case is that you want consistency over a large spreadsheet and the only way to achieve this is by using styles. Try and you will see it is not rocket science.
