Description lomacar 2024-08-28 19:27:02 UTC
Description:
I am talking about Writer here, but suggestions may apply to other apps. Commenting is a neglected part of LibreOffice, in my experience.

Steps to Reproduce:
This is an enhancement request. There are no "steps to reproduce".

Actual Results:
1. There is no way to delete resolved comments.

2. There is no way to filter comments by author or date.

3. Replies start with "Reply to Firstname Lastname (2024-08-28, 11:43): '...'" But this is unnecessary and cluttered.

4. Comments in the navigator pane to look the same whether they are resolved or not.

Expected Results:
1. There needs to be a way to delete resolve comments.

2. There needs be a way to filter comments by author. Additionally, it would be nice to be able to filter by date.

3. It would be far better to just indicate replies with formatting, which is already done, but perhaps it could be made more clear.

4. It would be good if resolved comments could be indicated in some way and/or hidden from the Navigation pane.

Reproducible: Always

Additional Info:
I think that is enough suggestions for now.

There's ongoing development to add these functionalities.

See bug 106316.

This bug is absolutely not a dupe of a sidebar deck for comments. The bugs are barely related.

... but they are related, since the mockups suggest there is work done there that also regards some issues brought up here.

This ticket was made based on the current situation regarding comments in LO.

It will be more productive to wait Mohit's patches to get merged, then we can create tickets about specific issues on top of what has been actually implemented.

Also, bug tickets like this with various different topics to fix are not very actionable. It would be better to have separate tickets with each request.

As per this ticket:
- Item 1: it is definitely possible to delete resolved comments. To hide them, simply uncheck the option in View - Resolved Comments

- Item 2: being taken care of by Mohit's patches

- Item 3: I agree with that; it would be better to have a ticket only for this (I could not find a duplicate)

- Item 4: Also agree; a separate ticket would make it more actionable; AFAIK the new sidebar will allow to filter them (but I haven't checked the latest versions of the patch to be sure)

1. It is NOT currently possible to delete resolved comments. Hiding is not the same as deleting. Sometimes the document can be bloated with old long-ago-resolved comments, and you want to clean things up. Also, there is a bug where resolved comments display even though they are supposed to be hidden. Toggling them on and off again in the View menu hides them again. I don't know if this has already been reported. If not, I guess I should do that. So should I make a new ticket specifically about this?

2. Good, if "Mohit's patches" are coming soon then that sounds good enough.

3 and 4. So I should go ahead and make separate tickets for those? I would certainly hope that the new comment sidebar both indicates and allows filtering of resolved comments.
