Description: At seemingly random times (very frequently) the Math window contents loses all layout and also appears to corrupt content. Selection of Math content is not available by double- clicking content in main window. I have rolled to 24.2.5 because 24.8.0 is unuseable. Steps to Reproduce: 1. create a document with Writer and select 'Math' 2. type Math formulas 3. switch between main window and Math windows Actual Results: all line breaks in the Math contents window are removed additional spaces and curly braces appear throughout double clicking content in main window does not highlight content in Math window or allow overtyping Expected Results: contents of Math window to remain unchanged unless changed by me double clicking in main window should highlight corresponding content in Math window and allow overtype Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: The software is unuseable for Math in this state. I have rolled back to V24.2.5
Edit: The version number that I had to roll back to is 7.6.7.2 in order to regain a working LibreOffice Math. All versions 24.xxxx exhibit same fault and are therefore unuseable This is a MAJOR issue
You are likely hit by the "visual editor as default" problem. For a list of related bug reports see bug 160150.
Thank you @regina I am new here, does this mean the bug is being addressed? I really don't want to keep installing/uninstalling, so I am sticking with V7. I thought upgrades were meant to make improvements, not make a product unuseable!
(In reply to peter from comment #3) > Thank you @regina > I am new here, does this mean the bug is being addressed? Yes, it is known, that there are problems with the visual editor. You should set yourself to CC on those of the mentioned bug reports, that fit best to your problem. I don't know whether it is planned the change the default to not use the visual editor. > I really don't want to keep installing/uninstalling, so I am sticking with > V7. I thought upgrades were meant to make improvements, not make a product > unuseable! You can use version 24.2. or 24.8. After you have installed it and before using any file with Math equations, start a new Math Formula document. Go to Tools > Options > Math > Settings and uncheck the option "Enable visual editing". You can install a new version parallel to your regular version (instruction in https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel) or use a portable version (currently 24.2.3 from https://portableapps.com/apps/office/libreoffice_portable). That way you can test, whether the above described way works for you. Or do it the other way round, make a 24.2 or 24.8 your regular installation and use a parallel installed or a portable version 7.6 for documents with Math equations. Always test on a copy of the document!
corrected for the 25.2.0 release, Visual editor remains out of experimental but is no longer the default. Backport to 24.8 and 24.2 branches under consideration and likely. Meanwhile just disable the visual editor mode Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice Math -> Settings 'Enable visual editing' unchecked.
