Description Konstantin 2024-09-03 11:39:53 UTC
Description:
I can't reproduce it on purpose, but I often encounter this bug in my work, this happens 10% of the time when opening files. Libre Office is just hangs at 30% of loading progress bar. And nothing happens then.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Find a XLS file on local PC
2. Double click on it
3. Libre Office is preparing to start (I see the progress bar and it stopped about 30% of progress), and it hangs

Actual Results:
Libre Office is hangs (I can't reproduce it on purpose, but I often encounter this bug in my work, this happens 10% of the time when opening files)

Expected Results:
XLS File should open normally

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
To remove the hang, I open taskmanager and type “Libre” in it - I see about 3 processes, I terminate all of them. After that the file opens normally

Please test in safe mode, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode

Please attach a sample file, reduce the size as much as possible without private information, and paste the information in Menu/Help/About LibreOffice, there is a copy icon.

Without a sample file to reproduce the issue, looks really difficult that devs to take care of the possible issue.

But I can't reproduce this bug intentionally. But I see it very often, just when opening an arbitrary XLS file LibreOffice hangs. Maybe it hangs just when opening any file (I just open XLS files more often), that's why I wrote about them. I think the file type itself doesn't matter.

As for safe mode - can it be enabled permanently? Or for a one-time launch? If it's a one-time launch - I can't reproduce the bug, the freeze doesn't happen every time. It seems that when LibreOffice is launched, it waits for something (but it doesn't happen) and hangs. And if I cancel the task, the problem goes away and it can't be reproduced for some time.

Maybe the problematic files has a printer not available on the network.

Test disabling Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice/Load & Save/ Load printer settings with the document.

One thing is not clear to me. You say that it does not happen always.

Does it happen _always_ with the _same_ file (or files)?

Let's say you opened one file and you see the problem. Does the same problem happens every time you try to open that same file? Or, instead, sometimes the _same_ file can be opened by Calc correctly, whereas other times the _same_ file hangs when trying to open it?

As for using LO safe mode permanently, instead of doing that, I would suggest disabling Skia options and testing without Skia with LO in normal mode.
Comment 7 Konstantin 2024-09-07 07:40:41 UTC
I happens even when I open just a Calc itselft (without opening the specific file).

I have no network printers...

Ok, I will try to turn off Skia option and I will test for a while to see the bug will happen again or not.

I tried to turn off Skia option and the bug is still occurring.
Even just when opening the program (not when opening a file).

If you try a fresh unstable build (which installs separately), Win-x86_64@tb77-TDF from https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/current.html do you also get the hang?
Comment 16 Konstantin 2024-10-02 18:29:42 UTC
I will install it. And test for some days.

I have tested the Development Build and had the same hang.
At first I installed DevBuild and marked "Start with Windows" (or something like that). But yesterday my PC got very hung up (this is not related to Libre Office) and I decided to remove all unnecessary programs from autoloader.

So when I removed DevBuild from auto start - the bug appears again. The same way. See the shot. I think it happens when Libre Office loads some of its files. It waits for something (for a very loooong time). So the bug exists even in DevBuild.

I think the bug does not occur if Libre Office is loaded at operating system startup. Вecause at system startup Libre Office is already loads some of its own necessary files. So:
1. When Libre Office starts with operation system - the bug doesn't show up
2. When Libre Office doesn't start with OS - the bug is here :)
