Created attachment 196988 [details] Screenshot of cell borders I'm a well-sighted user, yet I can't easily distinguish where the borders are in the drop-down menu with border options. What I find myself doing is mousing over the area where I remember the desired border is, until I see the tooltip confirming that's the border I've been looking for. Would it be possible to make this drop-down more accessible, perhaps by adding whitespace around each border sample? I'm attaching a screenshot taken from KDE Linux. The resolution is 2560 x 1440 if that matters.
(In reply to Dan Dascalescu from comment #0) > perhaps by adding whitespace around each border sample? Based on the screenshot in attachment 196988 [details], I would suggest potential alternatives, in order to improve the contrast between the intended "border" lines and the rest of the icon: * Increase the width of the to-be-applied "border"; this would (intentionally) exaggerate the "border" line, making it non-proportional to the rest of the icon – I am saying this as a potential positive effect, but the result might make me change my current opinion. * Increase the contrast between the "border" lines and the rest of the icon; the current colors in the icons shown in attachment 196988 [details] seem to be some variation of "grayish". OTOH, the equivalent icons in my MS Windows OS seem to have more contrast, showing less gray areas and more black ("to-be-applied border") vs a clearer gray ("closer to white", if I'm allowed the expression). Themes ("Automatic", "Light", "Dark",...) or similar/related visual effects are another factor to consider.

The split button is comprised of a grid of standard sized icons, there is no preview. The icons on the grid are the 24px standard size and match the Tools -> Options -> View "large" icon setting for Toolbar/Sidebar/NB. Selecting Extra Large (32px) toolbar icon theme does not affect the grid. The Sifr icon themes (Light or Dark) are our "accessible" icons, and offer a better contrast/iconography of the border each icon represents. If your desktop is operating at 2560 x 1440 (16:9) your os/DE likely can reduce that to a different 16:9 resolution--e.g. 1920 x 1080, everything in the UI will occupy more space. You can also attempt a proportional scaling factor 1.5, 2.0, 2.5; but that behaves differently depending on os/DE. I'd try the display resolution first.
@Dan, you've several suggestions to respond to.

@Stuart: I would prefer not to mess with my display settings, which are adequate for all other applications. May I suggest thickening by one pixel the borders for Left, Right, Left & Right, Top, Bottom, and Top & Bottom? Alternatively, the 4 gray quadrants in each borders icon could be made lighter to enhance the contrast.
Created attachment 204292 [details] Side by side, Win build on Win11, Colibre vs Breeze icon theme Yes so sorry, looked closer and noticed you are on a Linux DE and using the default Breeze icon theme. So, depends on selected icon theme in use, Breeze icons could use a tweak as suggested to become more visible.
