Hi,

Can I request that you add the option of auto-naming of URL hyperlinks please?..

With Microsoft One Note I could paste a YouTube video URL onto the page and it would automatically name it the same as the video.

Now that I have switched to using Libre Office Writer for my notes, it's a bit tedious having to manually edit every hyperlink to give it the same name as the video...

Cheers

I know One Note doesn't do it for every type of link, so I just checked and it definitely does it for:

YouTube video links
Vimeo video links

Rumble video links - Do not auto name...

So it's picky about when it does it.

I'm only mentioning One Note just to demonstrate that it is possible to do it with YouTube and Vimeo videos.

I made a forum post asking about this function before.

And I just noticed that when I pasted the link to this bug on the forum, the URL auto-named itself in the preview window to the right... So Libre Office devs obviously already know how to do auto-naming of URLs to some extent.

Oh, someone said Libre Office devs don't make the "Not a forum"...
So it's not 'obvious they know how to do it' like I said.

Still, I bet it's not too technically difficult for them.

I also noticed pasting anything in Yahoo Mail it will auto name the URL, no matter what it is, and fetch a thumbnail.

Thnak you for your idea. I'm not sure about expected result for 100%.

So my steps:
1. Open a YouTube Video, for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsMoOtAxqhI (LibreOffice Conference 2024 - Quick recap)
2. Copy URL
3. Paste link in writer document

Actual result
Text: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsMoOtAxqhI

Expected result
Text: LibreOffice Conference 2024 - Quick recap

Is this correct?

Hi,
Yeah, that is what is expected to happen at the moment, because Libre Office does not have an Auto-URL-Naming function.

I was requesting that the devs add that function as an option people can turn on or off.

Thank you for quick response. So let's ask design-team about their opinion.

I think there is no harm in adding a title suggestion even when it's not working at 100%.

Should not be limited to Writer.
