Very wide properties window

When I work with documents created in a previous version of the application, after opening Properties (File -> Properties), the width of the window cannot be changed because it has been locked. This makes it difficult to use the Properties window. Previously, this bug did not occur.
Comment 1 V Stuart Foote 2024-10-30 16:42:06 UTC
Can not confirm.

While the File -> Properties... dialog's 'Description' panel opens with full width fields, the dialog can be grabbed and resized narrower from its right edge.

It is resizable on the Windows builds.

Please post your build and os/DE details from the Help -> About LibreOffice panel.

Comment 3 Peter 2024-10-31 17:37:21 UTC
When you delete the old comments in the Comments field -> OK -> exit Properties window -> reopen Properties, the very wide, stretched window gets back to the default size.
Comment 4 Peter 2024-10-31 17:45:52 UTC
The width of the window does not depend on the older version, it depends on the amount of text in the Properties window in the current ver.

If you type longer text there, close and reopen the Properties window, its width stretches to the length of a sentence, paragraph, or similar variable.

OK, with that hint I can confirm it on a 24.8.2.1 release build on Windows. The File -> Properties... dialog's 'Description' tab's "Comments:" field opens overly wide and the dialog width can not be reduced.

However I can not confirm on current master against the 25.2.0 release. I believe that patch for bug 160937 [1] now provides all os/DE with reasonable width and scrollbar for very long "Comments" text.

@Heiko, was there a backport needed/planned for 24.8.3?

ODF text file created in 25.2.0 with long description "Comment:"

Open in 24.8.2.1 writer and check File -> Properties

The long "Comment:" goes overly wide and the Properties dialog can not be drag resized narrower.

The same in 25.2.0, the Properties dialog is reasonably sized and the Comment field receives a scroll bar as needed.

The long description Comment window features a horizontal scrollbar, and the Properties window displays comfortably in the Linux build I currently have installed from Debian backports. This bug may be Windows-specific.

I am an interested user only, not a developer, but I hope this information helps.
