Description Telesto 2024-11-01 20:37:28 UTC
Description:
ENHANCEMENT: ability have to sidebar decks open simultaneously

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Writer
2. Notice the sidebar at the Right

Actual Results:
There are multiple decks, but can only opened deck by deck (not side-by-side)

Expected Results:
Wide screen monitors are pretty common. There is plenty of room available for having to decks open at the same time. Lets say Properties deck and Style inspector

It saves clicks flip-flopping around in the sidebar panel, I think

Didn't really overthink the design. Maybe by pinning a deck (pin icon), which disables the item in the sidebar list of available tabs to prevent having the same deck open twice

Reproducible: Always

@Eyal,
The question: is this a silly idea or has it some merits?
Comment 2 V Stuart Foote 2024-11-01 21:07:07 UTC
This is very much needed, and a short coming of the SB framework when implemented to replace individual dialogs. But it is a dupe of the existing enhancement request.

I can relate to the motivation. I'm not thrilled about using two sidebar decks myself, but this isn't silly. You'd want to make sure that this behavior is not the default nor easy to trigger unintentionally.

I don't think it's a dupe; Telesto did not ask for folating decks. More of a related issue, I would say.

Flat out a dupe! It requires additional work on the SB framework to allow more than just the <F5> Navigator deck's 2nd instance. So in a since we already can have two SB decks open and this is NAB.

Floating or docked, makes no difference (though actually working out the anchor points for docking location/sequence will be a challenge).

Ultimately, framework should support every SB deck to be spun off as a new deck--floating or docked. With user preferences/settings saved to profile.

PS. guess it must be a difficult concept--but opening multiple BZ issues for essentially the same enhancement, then leaving them hanging around--dilutes the emphasis to be placed on older BZ issues. Consolidate them where possible, it brings focus to the issue and is more likely to move a dev to pick it up to work on.
