Description Dennis Rice 2024-11-22 18:26:58 UTC
Every time I try to create a new Table of Contents LibreOffice Writer crashes. On reopening I have submitted the crash report. This has happened every time I try to create the ToC, nearly a dozen times now. Since it is not preventing me from continuing with my document, it is not a critical issue, but I would like to have the table of contents as I create the document so that I can jump to a given section to perform additional editing.

Please attach a sample file, reduce the size as much as possible without private information, and paste the information in Menu/Help/About LibreOffice, there is a copy icon.

I'm not sure I understand the previous message. I created an example file and attempted to create a ToC again. It crashed again. After the crash, I went to the URL that was specified for the crash report, but no report was there—"Page not found."
I want to provide you with additional information, but I am not sure what I can provide.

Just to confuse the issue, I just created a test document and then issued the commands to create a ToC. This time it worked. Wish I understood. I have now attempted to insert the ToC into my working document (cannot submit, private), I again obtained a crash. All chapter headings are set to Heading 1, I do not understand the difference.
Please give me a clue as to what I might be doing wrong. This time I am including the URL for the Crash Report: https://crashreport.libreoffice.org/stats/crash_details/a8706d73-1ad9-4ef3-b64f-89e8871c0d10 .
Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Dennis, thanks for the crash log, which should be helpful.

Can you also provide a minimal test document which produces the crash for you so that testers can try to reproduce the crash using that document on their systems please.

I think I just discovered my error. I originally wanted to create the ToC on the page that already had some text (Title Page), but just now tried to create the ToC on a new blank page and it worked. Guess I didn't read all the instructions!

All of the team are doing a great job and I very much appreciate your work.

I apologize for my error and taking up your time.
