hi, A simple addition,a possible enhancement. Now we can have the comments in a document either "visible" or "hidden". A 3rd option could be: "hint" (semi-hidden, semi-visible) .......... When we have the comments visible ("SHOW COMMENTS"), it's distracting. But turning them off (hiding them, making them invisible) really hides them. This is bad because it can happen that you don't even notice that there are comments. Also, even if you know that there are comments, you don't know, where they are. If you knew where the comments are, you could only click the ruler when you where at such a part where there is a comment. (thank for this great enhancement! initiated by Cristoph in 2011 "bug" id=38246 ) .......... NOTE: The number 1 reason to have a 3rd visibility, "hint", is that we use comments for ourselves too, all the time... like "postit" If we could have a semi-hidden status, it would be great!! .......... How would it work? NOW: In the top ruler (horizontal), We can toggle the comments' visibility. click #1: show click #2: "hide". FUTURE: With 3 options available, this could remain as it is. with one addition: click #1: show click #2: hide click #3: hint .......... What would "hint" look like? The same as the "show" mode. But only the dashed lines would be visible. Like, thin gray dashed lines, possibly :) .......... With this enhancement, we would know where to look. Where to turn on comments, for a few seconds. This would allow for a smooth workflow. Without unleashing chaos by turning on comments. - - - thank you for developing Libreoffice and writer! - - -
Personally I don't see the big advantage here. And if you're not aware, that a document might contain comments, this option doesn't help you at all. So I can imagine a pop up window when opening a document with commentents like "This document contains comments. Do you want to see them after opening the document?" cc: Design-Team
