Description: There is "Save as type" drop down menus in Save As dialog and Export dialog. There is a lot of available options but majority of users will be needing maybe only 1-4 of them. Rest of them just make harder to find and choose the one you want. Good applications have ability to hide options from these menus that you will never be using. Would it be possible to add this feature to libreoffice? Not sure what is best way to implement, one alternative is to make "choose save as types" button in save as and export dialog. There you would see all available types (docx, rtf, doc, xml, txt, etc..) with checkboxes when you can uncheck ones that you don't want to be visible. Steps to Reproduce: 1. open save as or export dialog 2. 3. Actual Results: . Expected Results: . Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: .
this feature request applies to all libre office products (writer, calc, impress, etc..)

Xnview MP has this feature. I've seen it in at least 1-2 other programs but I currently don't remember which they were.

But, even granting that - it's a _different_ set of 1-4 formats for different people. > Rest of them just make harder to find and choose the one you want. When I want to buy a train ticket, all of the train routes other than the one I'm taking that day make it harder for me to choose mine. If only all the options I didn't need that day were hidden and we only saw the one we do need :-) > Would it be possible to add this feature to libreoffice? This sounds like an X-Y problem. The problem is the difficulty, or the burden, the cumber, of choosing an item from a long list of options in a Save As dialog. I would focus on that rather than on the specific solution you suggest. If you re-title the bug, or close this one and open one about the actual problem, I (and other users) could think of one or more suggestions that might make it easier.
Kind of opposite request in bug 96278.
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #5) > Kind of opposite request in bug 96278. That one is about showing files in the directory, not items in the list of formats... By the way, some statistics: in LO Writer 24.8, there are 17 formats you can save as, plus an "All Formats" item.

That is why choosing which ones *you* want to have visible would be so usable. In Good UI design (IMO) you don't see or need to move mouse over any options you never use. Think about the amount of letters you need to read or the distance of pixels your mouse needs to move to accomplish your tasks. These should be minimized for an efficient UI.
We discussed the topic in the design meeting and at the ESC. Filters have a lot of attributes and adding another to hide from file browsers wouldn't be an issue for usability. In fact, some users/companies might not want to save in non-standard formats. So the proposal is to implement such attribute but leave it as an advanced feature and defer the UI, if needed, to an extension.
