Description Telesto 2025-02-03 13:50:03 UTC
Description:
Tiny drawing objects with text label hard to move by drag and drop

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the attached file
2. Try to select and move the arrow with label by mouse (by drag and drop), compare with arrow without label

Actual Results:
* You can't move the object without pre-selecting
* Pre-selecting the same (so white square appears) is hard. Mostly the text label gets activated
* If you move the mouse very carefully you get a cross suggesting you can move the object. If you do, you move a pointer of the arrow to different place. Not the whole line

Expected Results:
Should be easier. Didn't think of the how, yet. Only about: the current implementation isn't working

Reproducible: Always

Options that do work
* Select the line in the Navigator
* Draw large selection square.. and move the line by keyboard arrows

I have no trouble selecting the individual draw shapes, toggling into drag mode (white 4-arrow cross pointer) to effect a drag. Or just using the cursor movements (Up,Dwn,Left,Right or their <Shift> enhanced moves).

If I need more precision in the grab, for a tiny object, I simply zoom in on the canvas. <Ctrl>+<MouseWheel>, or via keyboard with shortcut <Ctrl><Shift><PgUp> (.uno:ZoomPlus), or via the Zoom slider on the Status bar.

But, I suppose it would be possible to implement an explicit "Move" mode toggle, reached via the shape object's context menu, rather than just pointer target as now. But not clear that gives workflow a more precise control than already available.

So maybe?

screenshot of handles in SoftMaker

I think, office suite "SoftMaker" has a nice solution. It provides additional handles outside the shape box, one for moving and the other for rotation.

Such handles could be added for tiny objects in LibreOffice.

We have the Navigator to select, and moving is not an issue as Stuart explained. Nothing to say against these handles, has been requested in bug 161441. Duplicate?
