Description Al K. 2025-02-09 11:59:35 UTC
Hello,

I want to request adding the line and character number in the statusbar.

Thanks

What is "line number"? A "line" in Writer is part of a paragraph; but:

1. Should header/footer lines (repeating on each page) be counted?
2. Should lines in frames (e.g., floating images' captions) be counted, and how?
3. How should tables be counted?

Generally, a line number is not something that we even track inside Writer. It makes no sense, no goal is provided.

Same for characters.

Please describe an appealing use case. Otherwise -> WONTFIX.

Character number is already shown in the status bar, so I'm not sure what you mean.

Line number request is bug 150631.

I was requesting the character number of the line where the cursor would be located to make it easier to match up the same word on multiple lines.

I was trying to have Check #:, Amount:, Date:, Written to:, Reason: on one line
next line Reference#, Transfer Date:, Transfer Time:, from: on another line

These would be used on multiple lines on different pages.

I already had a custom color set, and later I'd filled in the wording next to the wording.

I can't simplify what I want to do.
I was trying to place the wording such as Transfer Time: back in the same place as the other lines where the word is located.

Thanks for your time.

If you want to set this as WONTFIX that's fine

Ok, then this is identical to bug 150631 and the debate can continue there.
