Description mjw72652 2025-02-11 21:07:47 UTC
Description:
The way LibreOffice saves themes and colors for items in 25.2.0.3 seems to have been changed. Formerly, choosing dark theme did not change the background of the page in either Writer or Calc, only the background of the menus and ribbon. Now it changes the background of the page from white to black if dark theme is chosen, and it is not consistent between Writer and Calc. The theme changes do not seem to be saved properly. If I change the theme to dark, my text is no longer visible, and I now am forced to use the light theme. The theme change does not appear immediately upon saving and exiting options, and I must close the document and reopen it to see the theme change. Happens in both Writer and Calc- not sure about other modules.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Choose Tools options LibreOffice Options Appearance and one of Light Dark System
2.Choose Apply
3.Choose OK

Actual Results:
Change does not appear in the document. Document must be closed and reopened for change to appear. The customization Items shows Document Background, but it is grayed out.

Expected Results:
Should be able to keep document background as white, or if background is changed to black and font color is automatic it should change the black fonts to white.

Reproducible: Always

Known.

The default "Automatic" Appearance theme draws from os/DE color theme, with the previous Application Color values handling refactored.

At 25.2 you *must* install one of the new Appearance themes. You can edit specific "customizations" of the theme, or create a new theme.

You must restart LibreOffice to fully apply the Appearance theme changes--that is intentional.

Once applied the default "Automatic" theme gets munged, that is being fixed for 25.8. And with just the default "Automatic" theme the Application colors no longer follow any previous values. The whole framework is refactored.

At 25.2 the only way to get the default "Automatic" back to os/DE provided UI element colors is to reset your user profile, rename it of delete it, or use the Safe mode restart.
