Description philosoraptor1 2025-02-14 21:48:49 UTC
Description:
would like to have the old-school LiO green theme back again. it disappeared from 25.2 and the lime theme is too yellow. I've used the LiO green theme since adopting LiO when it first came out around 2010 or 2011. I think back then you had to link to Firefox themes to get it actually.

Actual Results:
attempted to change appearance and only 4 themes are available now

Expected Results:
old-school green theme available

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
old-school green theme should be available

Sorry, the old Mozilla style 'Personalization' framework has been fully removed.

Colors, gradients and bitmaps applied with any of those color schemes are gone. It would need a new Appearance theme comprising both Light|Dark colors (to respond to os/DE color theme, or user override) created as an new Appearance theme extension.

Along with some gradient bitmap to tile for background fill if that is what you miss, though not sure the extension can currently hold the images to include into Gallery.

But feel free to spin one up, you have the ability to roll your own on the Tools -> Options -> Appearance panel.

Colors for the themes are in Decimal, so you'll need to convert the RGB Hex to make color assignments to the listbox of customizations.

The old 'Green' personalization color bar was in the range of
#64BCBA -- so 6601914 decimal. But that is only one of dozens of colors you'll need to curate.

Hey @Mihai, maybe of interest to you? Especially as we now have Rafael Lima's macro (attachment 199065 [details]) to guide building more complete themes. But, still a fair bit of grunt work styling a set of themes that might replace the colors from the old Mozilla style bitmap Personalization themes.

I might do more color variants of the existing blue theme, please take a look and see if it would work for you.

@philosoraptor1@yahoo.com, as I can see, the theme you are talking about is only theming the main toolbar and nothing else. Also it has a gradient, which it cannot seem to be possible anymore.

Yes that sounds like the original one. At some point I had to switch to just a plane (no fade) teal but it still worked for the tool/side bars. But with 25 that’s all disappeared. The new themes available aren’t that interesting but more importantly don’t play well with macOS dark mode (the page and font are both black).

I don’t like this release. I’ve not had trouble with previous releases but this one I’ve had to trash and reinstall and still can’t get it to work. Everything is dark.

I’ve had it with 25. I have to back down to the last 24 as I just can’t get 25 to work on my MacBook M1 Pro.

Submission of actual themes is for the community (Mihai did a great job so far), and more alternatives are welcome. Nothing to do for the development.

It is a bug as when my computer switched to dark mode everything was black and unreadable. No matter what theme I changed to everything remained black. I even tried adjusting individual colors without success. I had to backtrack to the last 24 version to get it to work again.

Sorry, I miss your point. This bug describes a missing Green theme, not an issue with dark mode. Maybe you posted on the wrong bug?

If not, please open a new bug describing the issue you are having.

OK so OP is on macOS, and aside from their hope to add theme in some Green color scheme, which remains the subject of this issue, they have a macOS specific issue with the new Appearance theme framework.

Likely experiencing a dupe of the macOS Dark mode specific bug 165266 where default Automatic theme is being munged after selection of Light|Dark rather than System. Or its older pre-Appearance theme dupe bug 154916
