Description Eyal Rozenberg 2025-02-28 09:47:37 UTC
We ship with two templates for a "Curriculum Vitae" or "Resume"; one is named "CV" and the other is named "Resume". This is confusing naming, because those mean the same thing, and nothing is said about the actual difference between the two templates.

Beliefs tend to be more convincing when one explains how one has come to form one's belief.

Please note that bugs can be reclassified as enhancements.

Version 25.2.1.2
Build ID: d3abf4aee5fd705e4a92bba33a32f40bc4e56f49
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 11 x86_64
UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US; UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

I also believe this is more of an enhancement than a bug. While in many places these words are interchangeable, some users may live in the US, where these do not mean the same thing. However, I do think it is odd that the templates are different, but contain the same information. Perhaps a name such as 'Alternative Resume' or 'Resume 2' would be better.

I don't see benefit from renaming CV to "Resumé 2". In fact there are subtle differences, for example the length. My take: WF (or NAB if this remains a bug).

If those differences are not well-captured by the change of name (CV to Resumé), then it is probably not merited, and 'Resumé 1' and 'Resumé 2' (or 'CV 1' and 'CV 2' or whatever) are probably better.

But - better still would be a name difference which _does_ capture the difference. For the pair we have now, I might call them "Tabular CV" and "Columnar CV", and maybe we can come up with a better idea.

I'm against using the same name for the two templates. CV and Resumé are different breeds.
