Created attachment 199882 [details] Screen shots to illustrate problem The Vertical Ruler is far off to the left of the document in single page view, and impossible to "line up" with text, unlike the horizontal ruler which is flush with the text. ENHANCEMENT/BUG: Have the vertical ruler flush against the left side of the text.
It is not clear why you must use a zoom factor of 44%, which, besides keeping the ruler far from the text, also does not display rulers numbers correctly. On the other hand, you can reduce the width of the LibreOffice window to 50% and the ruler will get closer to the text.
Noted this is now a "WONTFIX". Disappointing! Surely the user can decide on screen resolution and document size, and my wish is that the edge ruler would truly be an edge ruler, sitting right at the left edge of the document rather than out in space at the side of my screen where it is virtually useless to be used in laying out a document. And the only reason I showed 44%, as well as 100%, was to illustrate that the ruler was not affected by my changes: it stubbornly remained at the edge of my screen! Yes, I could, if I wished, enlarge the document to 150% or similar and THEN the ruler would be in a useful location but I don't like such large text!!!
UX Team -- please take a look at this enhancement. Thanks!
From Tools -> Options -> Writer -> View panel we allow the Vertical rule to be placed 'Right aligned' and we also provide the very functional 'Helplines while moving' that allows precise placement of any object on the Writer page. Styled paragraphs excluded of course as their layout in not direct positioned (depending on inter-paragraph "space before/after" formatting/styling. What roll in layout does the vertical rule provide that is not already provided with the rule visible and the Helplines active? IMHO => remains WF
You can size the application window so it fits the desired canvas. I don't think a ruler attached to the document looks good and is accepted by the majority. Consider also more than one page visible at once. The helplines as mentioned by Stuart are a nice feature for an exact placement. Do you have any special use case that is not covered by this?
