You can go to Table - Format - and change the number of decimals.

I know, but it's annoying doing so, while I think the default behaviour should be to mantain the number written with all the decimals.
In Word you have what you write in the cell, it doesn't dare rounding or trunking the number you just wrote for you.

For me it kept from 0.0001 the value 0.00, so it kept 2 decimals, which I think is a default one.

When testing, it rounded to two decimals for me as well. You can adjust the number format, which can be considered inconvenient, but I don't think this would be considered a bug. Leaving as unconfirmed.

Can't confirm the problem with

In Number Format Dialog I have the following entry for Category "Numbers" by default: Format is standard and Decimal places is empty

The steps seem to be incorrect. By default the format category is "All" and nothing happens to the number after changing cell focus. So you would need to explicitly format the cell/table anyway and thus define the desired decimal places.

Please advise on what the proper steps would be to make it automatically format the cell as Number.
