Created attachment 200246 [details] Screenshot - shows Page Style in the Footer that i need in Break Window Request: Display current page style in Manual Break window. Background: I am writing a book. I made use of custom Page Styles (Default Page Style, Left Page, Right Page, Landscape left, Landscape right). I use portrait page orientation left/right by default. Sometimes i need {Portrait Left -break-> Landscape right}. When i need a landscape page i go via >> Insert >> More Breaks >> Manual Break Reasoning: The window lets me choose page break and shows my page options. But it does NOT show the style of the page where i insert the break after. I frequently have to close the window and click on the page footer to find out the page style. It would be a huge help to see the current page style in the manual break window. Thank you all for the Writer! :)
Sure could improve the work flow when inserting a "styled" manual page break. A label listing the current assigned page style inside the 'Insert Break...', and grouped with the Page break radio button could make the work flow more precise. Detail is already sensed/reported on the Status bar, but adding as a updating label in the dialog would avoid having to expose the Status bar, or the 'Page Properties...' dialog to review. Reasonable, +1
Bjoern, I've rephrased the title to clarify what I understand to be your request. If I've gotten it wrong, please rephrase it yourself, because it was confusing for me. Anyway, I agree with Stuart.
We discussed the topic in the design meeting. OTOH, the current page style (PgS) is shown in the statusbar and PgS are defined to have a follow-up like left-right pages. But we use to have redundant information, the statusbar can be hidden, the info is easy to miss, and a label does not hurt. This label could be placed below "Page Style:" like - Current page style: <label> (or "Page style before break:") - Next page style: [dropdown] (or ""Page style after break:") Alternatively it could be amended to the existing label like - Page Style after <name>: The entry [None] is misleading (reported and WF'ed in bug 77698) and actually rather what is defined as default under "Next style" in the current PgS. We could change it into the actual style name, use "[Continue]" instead, or add this to the following PgS name (like "[continue] Left Page".
Hey all, I have just been observing as i didn't wish to interfere with the Dev talk and create artificial weight here. I thank all of you a lot for following up on this. My 2cents on the design suggestions are this: For me, the most intuitive info or guiding description would be phrased like this: This label could be placed like - Page style at Cursor: <label> - Page style after break: [dropdown] ------------------------ I see you have already released an update. Not likely to include this already. but who knows. I am afraid of updates...so many customizations around the taskbar i need to curate. So I'll be slow to try this out after release. Thank you, again!
