Description: Prior to this update, LibreOffice would allow adding a word to its dictionary via the dropdown menu that populates upon a right-click. It does not do so anymore. Now, I have to highlight "incorrect (but actually correct)" word, go to Tools, go to Spelling, and add it from there. As a frequent writer and user of LibreOffice Writer, I find this change to increase my completion time and decrease my satisfaction with your product. LibreOffice already comes with a quite limited dictionary, which means that adding new words to the dictionary is a somewhat frequent task I must complete. Please just re-add "Add to Dictionary" at the bottom of the dropdown menu when I right-click a word. Actual Results: N/A Expected Results: N/A Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: I did try adding a new dictionary to see if it would at least increase the amount of recognized words, but this action corrupted LibreOffice, and I had to reset my profile.
Created attachment 200407 [details] Screenshot 24.8.6 If is this option, maybe you have modified inadvertently the context menu. Version: 24.8.6.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 6d98ba145e9a8a39fc57bcc76981d1fb1316c60c CPU threads: 16; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 26100); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: es-ES (es_ES); UI: en-US Calc: CL threaded
Version 25.2.1.2 Build ID: d3abf4aee5fd705e4a92bba33a32f40bc4e56f49 CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 11 x86_64 UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US; UI: en-US Calc: threaded When trying to reproduce this bug, I discovered that if you highlight the word and right-click, the 'Add to Dictionary' option is not available, but if you just right-click on the word without highlighting the whole word, the option is available. Not sure if this is intentional behavior or not.
Thank you for reporting the bug. I can not reproduce the bug in Version: 25.2.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: bbb074479178df812d175f709636b368952c2ce3 CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 26100); UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: CL threaded
Thank you for reporting the bug. I can confirm that the reported behavior change between the two installs below. Right clicking (without highlighting and selecting) a misspelled word under version 25.2 provides a menu which includes "Add to Dictionary". However, this option is no longer present under version 25.8. Version details follow below. Version: 25.2.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: bbb074479178df812d175f709636b368952c2ce3 CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 (10.0 build 19045); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Version: 25.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 9bc5b89c149497a83117edfadc3fb0b96d2f9899 CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 (build 19045); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
I cannot reproduce under Linux. "Add to Dictionary" is still there. So it seems very likely this is a user-specific issue (i.e. user profile). (In reply to meagan.eggert from comment #2) > if you first select the word and then right-click, the 'Add to Dictionary' > option is not available, but if you just right-click on the word it is. > Not sure if this is intentional behaviour or not. Definitely intentional. Already true in OOo 3.3. I would strongly suggest resetting your entire user profile in Help - Safe Mode. If that doesn't work, please provide a screenshot of the non-working context menu.

Justin, what I notice: - if I just click inside a misspelled word and right click, LibreOffice is automatically highlighting that word and offer in the context menu the option to Add to Dictionary - if I double click the word (considering this is the way to select the word, not knowing that LibreOffice will autohighlight the word) then the context menu will be different without that option to Add to Dictionary. Tested with Version: 26.2.2.2 (X86_64) Build ID: 1f77d10d6938fd34972958f64b2bcfa54f8b1ba5 CPU threads: 16; OS: Linux 6.17; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded With Version: 26.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) Build ID: 5da5a96ecf0c927f16286414a1e832af25ba5feb CPU threads: 16; OS: Linux 6.17; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Also with Version: 26.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) Build ID: 5da5a96ecf0c927f16286414a1e832af25ba5feb CPU threads: 16; OS: Linux 6.17; UI render: default; VCL: x11 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded

(In reply to BogdanB from comment #7) > - if I just click inside a misspelled word and right click, LibreOffice is > automatically highlighting that word and offer in the context menu the > option to Add to Dictionary Yes - in this case you get a spelling-context menu, with spelling-related actions. It automatically highlights the word so that the menu options can act on the entire misspelled word. > - if I double click the word (considering this is the way to select the > word, not knowing that LibreOffice will autohighlight the word) then the > context menu will be different without that option to Add to Dictionary. Yes - in this case you have the ability to do non-spellchecking things with the word (like copy/paste etc). It is very intentional to 'do something different than spelling' when the user preselects some text. See bug 98902 for a discussion about that. (In reply to Jeremy Norvell from comment #4) > Right clicking (without highlighting and selecting) a misspelled word > under version 25.2 provides a menu which includes "Add to Dictionary". > However, this option is no longer present under version 25.8. @BogdanB: What we really need is someone with a Windows bibisect to confirm that comment 4 is accurate - and identify the commit that caused that.
(In reply to Jeremy Norvell from comment #4) > Right clicking (without highlighting and selecting) a misspelled word > under version 25.2 provides a menu which includes "Add to Dictionary". > However, this option is no longer present under version 25.8. See bug 166689 where this bug was introduced during the development of 25.8 and subsequently fixed for 25.8.0. So AFAICS we have nobody who has been able to reproduce this in any released builds. Looks like a WORKSFORME.
