Created attachment 200476 [details] Powerpoint presentation with two slides (pptx) Impress crashes reading a pptx file with two slides on Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon. The first slide is displayed, and then the system crashes before the left column images display. The file is displayed correctly on Ubuntu (LO 24.2), FreeOffice, and OnlyOffice, as well as Windows 11. This problem seems specific to Linux Mint. This is why I had to install FreeOffice and OnlyOffice to display pptx files reliably. It would be so nice if LibreOffice could do the job. Hardware: Toshiba Satellite with Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6400@2.0GHz x 2. Memory 2.8GiB, Hard Drive: 1003.3 GB. Thanks for your help. Antonio
Does the issue also happen if you install the flatpak version of LO?
From: Antonio Zamora <citpeks777@gmail.com> Date: Wed, Apr 23, 2025 at 3:23 PM Subject: Re: [Bug 166314] LibreOffice impress crashes immediately after displaying first slide on Linux Mint To: <bugzilla-daemon@bugs.documentfoundation.org> Yes. I initially tried the flatpak version that came with Linux mint. When that failed I installed 24.2 from the LibreOffice website. After that failed, I installed OnlyOffice and FreeOffice and they both worked. When 25.2 Deb came out I installed it, but it also fails. I have another laptop with Ubuntu that has LO 24.2 and it works fine. I think the problem only occurs with Linux Mint. Thanks, Antonio Reply : Personally, I don't have Linux Mint, but Ubuntu, so someone else needs to confirm the bug Please paste here the information of Libreoffice in Help > About Libreoffice. There you will have the Version Information. Next to it, you will have a copy icon. Paste the result here Thank you You can install flatpak and the flatpak version of LO on Ubuntu if that's a concern for you

Hoping for a better outcome, I installed the newest version of LibreOffice. Flatpak using the following procedure: 1) sudo apt remove libreoffice* 2) sudo flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo 3) sudo flatpak install flathub org.libreoffice.LibreOffice Flatpak info: Version: 25.2.2.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 7370d4be9e3cf6031a51beef54ff3bda878e3fac CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Flatpak Calc: threaded Result: LibreOffice displays the first slide and then crashes the system. FreeOffice and OnlyOffice have no problem opening the two-slide Powerpoint pptx file.
Attempted to duplicate on Linux Mint MATE 22.1 Xia 64-bit. No crash using the LO version below. Encouraged by Jeremy's comment using LM Mate, I changed from my normal Cinnamon (default) to the Wayland (experimental) version... and SUCCESS! This confirms that the LibreOffice crash with the two-slide PowerPoint file only occurs on the default Linux Mint Cinnamon version. Wayland works fine. Cinnamon will need to be fixed. Thanks for all your help. > Antonio > > == Yesterday, I wanted to reproduce the system crash of Linux Mint 22.1 X11 trying to open the amazing-slides2.pptx file with LibreOffice using the Live version of LM. I downloaded LM 22.1 and burned a disk with the linuxmint-22.1-cinnamon-64bit.iso file. Once LM was running in the live trial after about 20 minutes, I tried to open the pptx file and it crashed taking me back to the initial screen. Fortunately, the Wayland option of the installed LM 22.1 works properly, but the default X11 LM installation has a serious bug that crashes the system when running LibreOffice impress for some pptx files.
I changed the title of Bug 166314 to emphasize that the problem is with Linux Mint and not with LibreOffice.
(In reply to Antonio from comment #12) > I changed the title of Bug 166314 to emphasize that the problem is with > Linux Mint and not with LibreOffice. Consider reporting the bug directly to the Linux Mint project https://projects.linuxmint.com/reporting-an-issue.html
There was now another case[1] where Wayland session helped, so let's close this report. 1: https://old.reddit.com/r/libreoffice/comments/1mbftru/the_gtk3_problem_in_libreoffice/n5st8tn/
