Description Quax 2025-04-24 12:50:58 UTC
Description:
An automatic update to 24.8.6.2 occurred when I attempted to open a document. After updating, nearly all formulae in the document have disappeared. I did not have an internet connection at the time of the update, and am not sure what previous version I was using.
I am not sure if this is an issue with saving, or the loading of the document in version 24.8.6.2. Other files have not been affected, and I saved the file normally, then shut down my device.
Some formulae near the end of the document have not been deleted, but all others are gone. There is no empty OLE box.
I will attach a copy of the file before (PX3A2 Cheatsheet - Copy.odt) and after (PX3A2 Cheatsheet.odt) saving in 24.8.6.2. Notice the large decrease in filesize, which leads me to believe 24.8 is failing to render equations that are present in the save file.
I do not have any backup copies of the file, although thankfully the content in the file is mostly a copy of other documents that have not been affected.
I have not had any prior issues with saving.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Save and close file in (unknown version)
2. Attempt to open file
2. Experience automatic update to 24.8
3. File automatically loads after update

Actual Results:
Nearly all formula objects disappear

Expected Results:
File opens in same state as it was saved, with formulae present.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Opened both files in different versions of LO.

Version: 7.6.4.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: e19e193f88cd6c0525a17fb7a176ed8e6a3e2aa1
CPU threads: 6; OS: Linux 6.4; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: de-DE
Calc: threaded

and

Version: 24.8.6.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 6d98ba145e9a8a39fc57bcc76981d1fb1316c60c
CPU threads: 6; OS: Linux 6.4; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: de-DE
Calc: threaded

Both files will show 4 formula objects. Show the same content.

Then I tried to open the files with a *.zip-app. Won't work in this files while it is working here in all other LibreOffice files (Writer, Base).

Couldn't confirm a buggy behavior but buggy files. Note: One file has 1,9 MB, the other file 92,6 kB.

Looks like the copy file is broken.
Word is not able to open, none of both.
Writer opens both with the same data. (5 OLE objects)
7zip is not able to open the files.

So it's a saving issue? Is there any way to retrieve the data in the file? Due to the filesize I'm inclined to believe the data for the OLE objects is not lost, but if Writer can't access it, I'm not sure how to proceed.
I don't think there's much point in pursuing the saving bug, since I have no further information about it.

Maybe contact with one of the companies specialized on compress programs, to contract the recovery of the file.
