Description Telesto 2025-04-27 09:36:03 UTC
Description:
Set Appearance from 'System' to 'Light' changes Document Background to black

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Writer (with fresh profile, system color dark-mode)
2. The document color is black (still not liking this as default, off-topic here)
3. LibreOffice -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Set Document Background to White
4. Press OK -> Applied to the open document
5. LibreOffice -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Set Appearance from 'System' to Light. Notice Document Background being set to black

Actual Results:
Document background being set to black, while appearance set to light

Expected Results:
Manual defined Document background being kept (or set to white). Not sure which one would be better

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

I can confirm the problem. It also happens in a new, clean install, if under Appearance you left it as "system" but just change the document background color to white, apply (it seems to work) and then perform another change to the UI such as going to Tools → Options → LibreOffice Writer → Formatting aids to activate the Border outline for text boundaries (document background goes again to black). Notice that if you then restart the application the selected settings are displayed. It seems that changes in the appearance are not really applied until a complete restart.

new changes are on the way. https://bug-attachments.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=200044 (ticket: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164970)

in the new ui, we would have '[x] use white document background' enabled by default so the document colors won't be modified at all unless the user says so (by unchecking that box).
