Description raal 2025-05-12 15:20:00 UTC
Description:
JAWS screen reader should always narrate the text that has been added to the selection when selecting the text using the Shift key and text navigation keys. The selected text is not narrated properly especially when selecting by line using Shift + Up or Down arrow keys, or by paragraph using Shift + Control + Up or Down arrow keys.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create several paragraphs of text.
2. Turn on JAWS screen reader.
3. Navigate somewhere in the text.
4. Repeatedly press Shift key and some of the text navigation keys, such as Shift + Down arrow key or Shift + Control + Down arrow key.

Actual Results:
Subsequent presses of Shift + navigation keys make JAWS only narrate “selected” without the text that has been added to the selection.

Expected Results:
Text that has been added to the selection should always be narrated by JAWS for Shift + all the navigation keys.

Reproducible: Always

The behavior I see (with a modified version of JAWS that was provided to me for analyzing another issue, so behavior might differ from the official release) seems a little different:

When the cursor is at the start of the paragraph and I press Shift+Down, the newly selected line is announced just fine.

When the cursor is somewhere in the middle of a a line, pressing Shift+Down results in only the rest of the line where the cursor was previously selected to be announced, not the newly selected start of the line the cursor moved to.

In any case, it probably makes sense to retest once tdf#166546 is solved.
