Description Buovjaga 2025-05-15 15:11:55 UTC
Split from bug 166588

"What's New" tab name: what does that mean? This is not about changes in LO. What's New is not a good title for a welcome text. "Welcome" would better convey what that tab is about.

Dialog title is already Welcome to LibreOffice. But think Heiko's original idea was a placeholder "for introduction (and later perhaps also as what's new info)".

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/184195

That and the link to project Credits, for anyone interested in seeing the Community.

Suggestion was made in bug 154593 to include credits, returned to Start Center rather than as a popup dialog. Only reason were still poking at this is for UI selection and now Appearance mode--neither of which fit well into the Start Center.

Heiko Tietze committed a patch related to this issue.
It has been pushed to "master":

https://git.libreoffice.org/core/commit/9e1470c07d7dc4f43c6bf98226583ee14e83c480

Resolves tdf#166594 - Reuse the Welcome dialog for WhatsNew

It will be available in 25.8.0.

The patch should be included in the daily builds available at
https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/ in the next 24-48 hours. More
information about daily builds can be found at:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Testing_Daily_Builds

Affected users are encouraged to test the fix and report feedback.

The dialog shows up now as well on new releases- with different text, of course. The usual checkbox (with the expert variable oo:Setup::WhatsNewDialog) allows to not show it again - and to return to the infobar.

You should post that on bug 166588 I believe.

Also - why is that change part of the fix for this bug? And - IIUC, on first startup the tab title will be "Welcome", is that right?

I'm not sure whether I like the idea of "Welcome" and "What's new" being somehow the same tab. Can you explain the rationale?
