Description: When the "file" menu is pressed, both "save as" and "export" appear in the menu. The list of filetypes in export does not include all of the filetypes in save as. This is confusing and the functionality of these should be swapped. There are filetypes someone would want to export something as rather than save as. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click on "file" in the top left corner 2. Click on "export" Actual Results: Only a few filetypes shows up. Expected Results: All possible filetypes in "save" and "save as" should show up. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 25.2.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 520(Build:2) CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 6.14; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US 25.2.3-3 Calc: threaded
Thank you for reporting the bug. I can confirm the described behavior in the versions of LibreOffice listed below. In both versions "Save as" offers about 15 file formats, whereas "Export" offers about 6. Not sure if this is intended. Export versions seem to largely be non-spreadsheet flavors such as pictures and markup languages. Version: 25.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 866538a4aeb30a598a6ede3d1763d898eb1920b0 CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Version: 24.2.7.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 420(Build:2) CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Ubuntu package version: 4:24.2.7-0ubuntu0.24.04.4 Calc: threaded
Moved back to unconfirmed after further review. "Export" seems to be currently designed for non-spreadsheet output while "Save as" seems be designed to capture various spreadsheet types. I am reluctant to list this as a bug until there's more confirmation that this isn't the desired behavior.
Yes, the semantic difference is that saved things are akin to project files that one would expect to reopen with all the same data while exporting will have a simplified result that can be described as destructive. There is some grey area here, such as CSV being under Save As while it is then always imported and having separate HTML filters in Save and XHTML in Export. Closing as notabug.
