The internal systems and platforms commonly generate reports in Microsoft Office formats such as .xls, .xlsx, and .doc. As a result, our users open many Excel and Word files every day using LibreOffice. However, when opening .xls or .xlsx files, the “Text Import” dialog appears every time. Even if the “Ask during this session” checkbox is not selected, the dialog still reappears when opening another file. Furthermore, this setting is not retained after a system reboot — the dialog appears again. This issue occurs consistently on all computers, regardless of brand or model, across our entire infrastructure. This is a widely recurring issue that negatively impacts user experience. We kindly request the following enhancements: Add a persistent user setting within LibreOffice to automatically select import options (such as "automatic") for .xls, .xlsx, and similar files. Allow users to modify this preference through the settings. Alternatively, provide an option in the right-click context menu such as “Open with Import Options” to access the dialog only when needed. By implementing such a setting, users would be able to open files using the “automatic” mode without interruptions — even after restarting the computer. This would provide a significant usability improvement for both individual and institutional use cases. Thank you for your attention and for your continued work on LibreOffice. Kind regards.
If text import dialog appears on import of XLS / XLSX, then these are not proper "Microsoft Office formats", but CSVs with wrong extension. And an option to not show that dialog for CSVs was implemented in bug 74580 for v.25.8. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 74580 ***
