Description Lightsky 2025-06-02 02:45:16 UTC
Description:
In dark mode Writer renders lots of text with "Body text" style (and some other styles) in black over dark background in Cinnamon 6.0.4 (Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04).
Please see attached ODT.

The style font color is "automatic".

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04
2. Add Ubuntu's "Fresh" libreoffice repo & install libreoffice (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa && \
sudo apt update && \
sudo apt install libreoffice)

3. Menu -> Themes -> choose "Settings" (at the top)
In "Dark mode" drop list choose "Prefer dark mode"

4. Open the attached ODT (with Writer 25.2.3.2)

Actual Results:
Observe Black text over dark background

Expected Results:
White/high contrast text over dark background

Reproducible: Always

Found that text may have black color assigned (not sure how to verify this).

One would expect Writer to INVERT font colors in dark mode.

Reapplying the style with automatic font color doesn't fix the paragraph color to automatic.

This also appears to be a workflow issue: most users likely don't know what automatic font color even means.
There needs to be a warning when user tries to e.g. apply a black color font offering to apply automatic color font instead and/or some information about what automatic font color is about.

Please try changing the theme.
Menu>Tools>Options>LibreOffice>Appearance

I changed LibreOffice>Appearance theme from "system" to "dark" and don't see any changes.
The font in the attached ODT is still black.
