Description John 2025-06-10 19:41:04 UTC
Description:
"submit an enhancement request" sent me here, but this irks me so much I have selected 'bug that should be fixed' from the dropdown after all.

There are times when Writer moves your view. Someone must have specifically coded it to do this, but I do not want it to do that, EVER. If I want to move my view, there are plenty of great tools to do that.

This has been particularly plaguing me as I format words into 'strong emphasis' with the format painter. I double click the format painter button and my view jumps. I go back to where I wanted to be and start formatting words, and my view occasionally jumps while I work. In addition, if the cursor ever touches the top or bottom of the window, it starts scrolling. And when I click the format painter to turn it off, my view jumps again.

Someone has spent time coding that behavior, and it is terrible. If there really is someone out there who desires for the program to move your view around like that, at least include an option to turn that behavior off.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. apply 'strong emphasis' (or probably any other style) to a word.
2. Double click format painter when you are not already scrolled up past the selected word.
3. Also happens often while painting the format, and when turning the painter back off.
4. Also happens at other times. I have been testing word processors all week and I don't remember exactly what things set this off in Libreoffice.

Actual Results:
Your view jumps to a place the program thinks you want to look.

Expected Results:
Well I expect it to do what it does, but I would like it to not move my view EVER unless I move it.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Nothing. Just make it do nothing. There is no place you can make the view jump to that is better than leaving it where it is. Even in the case where it does happen to go to a place I wanted to look at, the couple seconds it takes me to figure out exactly were I am is probably slower than if I just moved the view there myself.

Checking our meta bug for Writer view jumping issues https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/showdependencytree.cgi?id=106773&hide_resolved=1 this could be bug 57818

Do you agree?
